Update: Found a guard that damn near fit, had to do some drilling, but that's how it goes. Now that the black is on there, I've changed my mind on what color it's supposed to be...looks like Shoreline Gold.

Squire basses that I own are:
2- Squire affinity P-basses ( one black, one White)
1- Squire affinity J-bass in Candy Apple Red
2 -Japanese made Jazz basses
1- Classic Vibe 50's Precision in LPB w/ Single coil PU
1- Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass white w/ tortoise shell PG

I bought the affinitys to rent to students who took Bass lessons from me.
The others I just thought were cool basses.

1989 MIK Squier II Precision Bass in white pearl/flake and a sweet thin 9.5" radius maple neck. I replaced the pickups with the Fender Original Precision Bass Pickups and pots to match standard Fender pot values.

I'm thinking of adding a pickguard (these basses came without them). Does anyone know what pickguard fits? Is there a difference between Fender and Squier pickguards? (metric?)

There are differences between Fender and Squire pick guards and there are differences between Fender pick guards for the same model guitar or bass if they were built in different countries.

You cannot assume anything when it comes to pick guards. Always try before you buy, if possible.

The best practice is to take your original pick guard, trace it on plain paper and mark every screw hole, pick up hole and neck pocket rout and send that off to your pick guard supplier to make your custom pick guard.
Or if you can remove the original PG and take it with you to you local Music store try to match the guard with what they have in stock.
this is really only going to work with USA made inst. maybe some Mexican made ones because of them being so prevalent, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for Squires. They are from too many dif. countries to be consistent.

I got a Short Scale Jaguar, and I love it. Needs heavier gauge strings to avoid a kinda rubbery feel compare to 34" scale basses. Good with 45-100 d'Addario XL nickels, probably even better with 45-105s. Just installed a Gotoh cast bridge, and I can barely tell the difference in sustain compared to a conventional scale bass. This is a truly great little bass!

Here are my two current Squiers. The first is a 2001 Affinity body (Alder), with a P-Bass Special Neck and other actual Fender appointments added (pickguard, chrome covers, tug bar). The second is a bone-stock 2000 Standard P-Bass Special (Agathis). I run flat wound strings on the red bass and round wound strings on the black bass.

I now have two Squier basses that I plug into my relatively newly-acquired Rumble 200 v3 combo amp. My lovely wife and daughters gave me a Vintage Modified Precision Bass V for Christmas, and I couldn't be happier with it! It compliments the VM Jaguar I bought (and upon which I learned) in early 2013. I've got flats on the Jaguar, and I think I'll stick with the stock strings on the Precision for a while. I'm loving the spectrum of tones enabled by this equipment, and that low B string sends shivers down my spine (in a really good way!). I'm amazed at how much lighter the Precision is compared to the Jag. I've been slowly adjusting the truss rod over the past few nights, and the neck is just about where I want it (intonnation is improving as I straighten the neck as well). Finish, neck, and frets are perfect on this bad boy. Enough yackin', here's a picture of my lovelies!

Cheers,
Dave.

One (at a time).

I had a Torino Red Bronco Short-Scale bass, but I was never really happy with it.

Today I swapped it (plus $60) for a lightly-used VM Jaguar Short-Scale bass, with a silver finish.
The first thing I noticed was that it's much lighter than the Bronco. It looks better, sounds better, has another pickup, and just feels easier to play. More comfortable to hold too. I'd totally recommend it as a starter bass for a kid.
I have to qualify the "sounds better" by saying that I don't have a proper bass amp; just headphones on a Mustang I V2, or else a pitiful little Kustom practise amp. Also, I never play in front of people or anything, I just like to pick it up once in a while for variety (instead of the various 6-strings).

I have a Vintage Modified Jazz bass, in natural, on back order.

It will be my first. It can't get here soon enough.

One presently. Former owner of a 2003 P Bass Special PJ in Candy Apple Red. Loved it but had to sell it.

Cured my GAS, at least for now with a new Affinity Jazz in Burgundy Mist.

This one is in the process of getting modded... Swapping in Vintage Modified DD pickups, Classic Vibe 60s High Mass bridge with brass saddles, Classic Vibe 60s tort pick guard, full shielding job, color matched headstock, replacement decal with Jazz Bass spelled out, block inlay decals, and beer bottle flip top cap gaskets for strap locks.

My GAS list includes a P bass, and a Vintage Modified Jaguar bass V Special. Keeping my eyes peeled for the P bass on Craigslist and in Pawn Shops...
