I have heard that Pro Tone series Squires from the 1997-98 period are of excellent quality, rivalling the offerings from Fender at the time. Does anybody own one? I have the chance to get a 5 string Precision bass, and am trying to get info on the Pro Tone axes. Thanks!!!

Well, i bought the 1997 Squire Pro Tone Precision bass Five, and it is a really nice bass. Excellent quality, beautiful ash body, gold hardware. It was a great deal that I could not pass up. The only thing that is tough to get used to is the WIDE neck!! It is comfy, but wide and thin. It will take some getting used to, but it is so nice, it is worth it.
I thought that Pro Tone guitars were somewhat desirable to the guitar playing public. This bass sat in the shop for almost 2 years. I am glad I finally got it, as I don't have a five string, and this one is very sweet.

I just took it all apart, cleaned, polished, tweaked, adjusted, massaged it. I will put pictures up when it is all back together. I still need to get a new set of strings for it, maybe tomorrow. Boy, those 5 string sets are expensive!!!
She is a beauty tho!!
