Defo post some pics, I'd like to see them.

I took my Classic 50's to band practice this week for our bass player to try.
He hated it! He plays a short scale Epiphone, with a tiny neck, so I think it was a bit of a giant for him!

It was the first time I've heard it through a proper bass rig (I'm a guitarist with a Blues Junoir amp) I thought it sounded so cool!

Really punchy. Deep and bright at the same time.

Everyone agreed they build quality was undeniably impressive.

I promise pictures soon. So your bassist hated it. Yeah, you get spoiled with those short scale basses. But it's the sound that's important and I think if he played it a bit and got used to it he wouldn't go back to the toy bass. I used a short scale Gibson for a while on a club gig back in the early sixties. I could really whiz around on it but once you got 10 feet away from the amp you couldn't tell what notes I was playing.

Have fun with your Squier Ian and thanks for the help and to everyone here for their help and encouragement. I'm thinking I'm going to have to do some serious work on my old P bass soon. New frets for one thing. I just may have to get a Squier P to tide me over. If I do I know where to go to upgrade the pickup. The Squier will definitely be a lot lighter than my current P which must weigh at least 12 lbs. :!:

Is the truss rod adjuster on the body end or neck end? I've been watching this thread and seriously thought about buying one, but wound up getting a real gem a 1983 Squier Bullet Bass for $40.00 and a used Coffin Case for $40.00.

I may get one, have not heard one bad review on these Classic Vibe Models

Ian certainly did help. All in all I'm pleased with the bass. Played it again for about an hour today and discovered it sounds best played with a light touch. Otherwise it can get a bit harsh. Probably because of the small, single polepiece per string. Again, that's the nature of that pickup. I kind of think a Quarter Pounder would have less of the harshness. However a lot of guys are going to like that sound of the stock pickup.

But it sure is fun to play. The T.I. strings are starting to get played in and sound even better. I had to back off on the truss rod a touch today. The new strings have less tension than the stock rounds so I had no relief at all after it sitting overnight.

I'll keep everyone updated if I make any major changes to it. Thanks for listening and the suggestions guys.

It may be a 4 mm that is common on a lot of Asian Made guitars. My squier 51 and my Danelectros are all 4 mm

Thanks Ian. I have every hex allen key known to man so I'll get in there and fiddle about and eventually will find something that works. Could have fooled me as I can't see any hex shape, but then again, my eyes aren't what they used to be. :(

I'll get at it tonight and put on new flat wound strings and get it tweaked. So far, even with the stock strings it sounds pretty nice through my GK MB 150S. Can't wait to see what I get once it's got new strings and a set up.

Anyone else have any comments about this bass? So far, I like it better than a re-issue Fender I tried. There is some single coil pickup noise but not too objectionable with the tone rolled off a bit where I usually would set it. The neck is slimmer than I remember from the re-issue, the fret work is very good, the finish is flawless and even the hardware looks quite adequate. All in all, quite unbelievable for the price.

Thanks again for the help.

Thanks Guido. It probably is 4 mm. I found one that works in my stash. It's one of a number I got with Ikea furniture kits. Works perfectly.

I'm still loving the bass and the Thomastic flatwounds are a perfect match for it.

I'm seriously thinking about putting a les paul style surface mounted jack plate on my 50's p bass. Can anyone see any major flaws here?

The round tele one isn't the most solid fit and is the only down point on this really cool guitar. Not all leads make a solid connection and there's no getting to the jack clamp thingy to adjust it due to the metal insert the round jack cover bolts to.

I'm thinking something like the chrome curved one on the top left....
