I have a squier modified jazz bass (fretless)
I want to change my strings {to tapewound} from the ones supplied by the
factory (which is .045-.100}
If I use 060-.115 or .110 will I have a problem at the nut or bridge?\

Will I have to re-setup the guitar?

I should imagine you would have to tweak the trusrod a bit and alter the bridge as your using thicker gauge strings but its not to difficult a job, it may take you some time if its your first attempt but if your not confident in doing it then ask one of your mates or take it to a tech.
I started playing a year ago and didnt know my arse from my elbow when it came to setting up a bass but now i can confidently do it and it will save you a few bucks as well.
What you have to bare in mind is everyone has a differnent way of setting up their instruments, action etc so just go with what feels right for you.

Changing string gauges, I've been told that you would need a complete set up/intonation. I've never done this until recently. If you've never done this, take it to a shop. You should show the tech what/how you play so they can have an idea how to set up your bass properly. Good luck.

I know quite a lot of bass players who dont change their strings at all, they just keep using the old strings.
If im honest, i dont change mine that often, maybe once a year, i should be ashamed but they sound brilliant so im not bothered

Mine have to get pretty rough before I change them... probably once every 6 mos. and I tend to play a lot. eh, whatever. It's part of the charm of my "sound" I guess.

I change my strings now about once a yr since I don't gig anyomre. On the flatwound tho, I've not changed it for over a year, still sounds the same. I do use stainless steels on the roundwound so they do last a little longer. When the band used to gig every wkend, I used to change it every 3 to 4 wks when I went to stainless, on non stainless I changed every 2.

Hi:

One guy I played guitar for which was almost 20 years. He had a 76 P-Bass, and he put flatwounds on it in 77 or 78, when he passed away in 2005 it still had those same strings on it, and they still stayed in tune
