After 20 years I want to start playing bass again. My choice falls on a Squier Affinity Precision Bass. I would like to modify it according to my ideas. My first question is: Is the fingerboard made of Indian Lauren wood varnished? I would like to darken the wood with oil before playing for the first time.

According to the specs, the neck is finished with Polyurethane, but it doesn't say anything specific about the fretboard, other than the material used. I suppose you could try it and see if it works, or just try to contact Fender's customer service and ask them, if no one on the forum knows for certain. I've never had an Affinity Series Squier, but a couple of Vintage Modified Squier basses with rosewood fretboards, and they didn't seem to have too much of a finish on them, or at least minimal. I did apply this butcher block conditioner/moisturizer stuff on the fretboards when I had to file the fret ends down, and clean up any scuff marks, and it did darken it up a little bit, or make it look new.

I'm a bit puzzled by the term 'varnish' but I take it as 'lacquer'. There on, Indian Laurel is like Rosewood, Ebony, Pau Ferro (...); it does not have a lacquer finish like Maple fretboards. (As a side note; some manufacturers use stain on some bare wood fretboards to make the color even or darker; AFAIK Fender/Squiers are not stained.)

So, the darkening with oil should work - and oiling when needed is also the SOP with IL fretboards maintenance. And oils can be tinted, if you're looking for ebony shade results.

At Saturday I bought my Squier Affinity Precision Bass. The neck has no lacquer on it. Not on the fingerboard and even also not at the neck.

Are you sure?
All Affinities should have a polyurethane finished neck. The finish is not thick or shiny, it's quite thin and satiny.
