Is anyone here thinking of purchasing one? I kinda have my eye on the 50's bass. I am a sucker for the telebass.

Actually I was going to order one, but with the same price as the Squier Deluxe 5 string, I'm going with the 5 string instead. I like basses w/o the pickguard, altho having a tort one on the '60s Jazz Bass should be awesome.

The 5 string bass to me seems to irk me for some reason. Maybe because I am just not good enough to use it but I am thinking that hopefully someday I will go fretless with some flats before 5 string. But you never know... I am still a newbie.

I prefer natural wood with no pickguard or blonde/blue with a white pickguard and either way w/ the maple fretboard. Of course, right now I have some sort of burst with a rosewood fretboard.

Is there a difference in feel between maple and rosewood fretboards?

I think with the rosewood you have a little better tone, feel wise I can't really tell. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about the tone for rosewood too. I like the look of the maple neck tho, that's why I got the VM. It's the 1st and only maple f/board I've ever owned. I've been playing for 20 yrs, I've had 5 strings and 6 string basses in the past. Time to play the multi strings again :) So I don't have to tune down so much - all my basses are drop tuned to D.

I'm really curious to play one. The Squier Vintage Modified basses are really nice and I bet these new ones will continue that quality level.

No I got it from Sweetwater.com. Best customer service for online ordering I've found.

I've looked at those deluxe fivers, they get good reviews but I'm not a fan of active electronics.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm in to old-school basses. All my Fenders are reissues and my other basses are Rickenbackers. All passive, all the time!

I see one of those 50's P's in my immediate future. I love Tele Basses (I've had three of them) but the cool part about these is individual saddles for each string.

Yeah I've got the 51 reissue and the double barrel bridge is a pain. No matter what I can't intonnate the strings (I can get it close but still flat at the 12th fret) and the string spacing of the A and D strings changes -- it seems to spread due to the lack of a groove and the tilt of the barrel.

I'm keeping the stock bridge however it because it's a reissue of Leo's first design and I like that for nostalgic purposes, but if this was my only bass I could see opting for the Squier just for the better bridge.

I have a 51 reissue too and Its those imperfections that give the bass its sweetness .

I went to a Guitar Center in North Carolina ,I think it was in Durham and was amazed at the fretless Jaco like bass from Squier that they had there . And the 51 in lake placid blue that I saw at the Squier site looks nice .
