Hi folks! Just wanted to share my experience with picking up an excellent condition 2013 Cabronita P bass this morning. I'm not sure how to post pics on here, otherwise I would have. Saw it on CL a couple of weeks ago, and am pretty darn happy now that I went for it, even after an uncertain beginning......

The seller (local...like 5 mins from me) posted the bass as "mint, like new", however, when I went over to check it out I noticed there were significant "surface scratches" above and below the strings (the pickguard was off) but nothing deep enough that a good buffing wouldn't remove. That, and a couple of minor, but easily fixable scrapes only noticeable if you look for them. The jack nut was loose, and doesn't seem to want to tighten completely....but when is this not an issue on Squier instruments?

At this point, it was not a deal-breaker for me so I asked him if I could "try it out". When he plugged it up, nothing happened. Not a sound. He changed cord thinking it was that, but it wasn't. I was starting to feel shy, and beginning to reconsider, though at the same time didn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water either. He seemed as genuinely perplexed as I, so I I asked him if he could open the back cover so I could take a look. (Lord knows how many times strange things happen to Squier guitar and bass electronics).

Upon looking, I noticed that all the wires are stuffed into a VERY SMALL space. I gently released them and immediately seen that there was an small area on the wire of the pickup that was burnt through right down to the bare wire. After we both chimed "Aha!", I requested that he wrap some electrical tape around the burned spot, gently tuck the wires back in, and hope it was just that and nothing else....and, that the pup was not dead because of it. (I did suspect that it might've been what he thought, and decided to sell it) Well, viola....it worked, and the bass sounded really good, so I took it home. And I did mainly because it has the most amazing tele-style bass neck that I've ever played on a bass. It's a "massive" chunk of maple :) And even though I have small hands, it just feels "right" to me. It's super comfortable to play. Eventually, I will replace the pup wire. I do find that it sounds 'muddy' with the tone rolled all the way down, but maybe that's just MY ears. Still sounds good though. It's a shame they don't make em anymore.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make that TINY space for the controls more accommodating for the wires? And are there any other Cabronita owners out there?

Cheers!

Ok, thanks alot for that.

I was thinking to just dremel out a bigger area, like a small "slot" on one side of the cavity inside, and "tuck" the wires to the sides a little? This would at least prevent me from having to put a bigger cover.

haha...apparently there are no Cabronita fans. Too bad. This bass is awesome!

I will post a couple of pics later. I have to do this photobucket thing first. Why Fender doesn't just let you load one up without having to use a middleman is....well...seems senseless to me.

Hmm. I don't know. Maybe someone who "knows" can answer your question. I never usually have any reason to download pics to the net.

Sorry, no photos. I donated that bass to a friend a couple of weeks after I bought it. It is a nice bass but, I wasn't that attached to it. Those that wish to unsubscribe from me because I haven't posted photos, then go ahead...you've earned it.
