So, after contemplating the '70s Jazz Bass for $699, the Jazz Bass 24 5 stirng is $799, I've decided I have the 4 string covered with the 2 Jazz Basses - both on my sig. So I'm going back to multi string basses (5 or more strings). I'm getting the Olympic White. I've always like active pups, so this should be a real treat/bargain for me @ $299. My wife's not to happy with my decision, but I've not upset her in awhile  so I'm going to order it soon.

Anyone know what "ebonol" fret board is? Is it just Rose wood painted black? Or is it fake ebony f/b? Ally, do you know? TIA.

It's a fake ebony. :)

I don't like to use the word fake because that implies its cheap and nasty, which it certainly isn't. I've never played an ebony fb but I'm told ebanol is very similar.

It does sound good on my Squier VM Fretless thats for sure :)

Those 5 string squiers look sick too! The matching Headstock is sleek as!

Hey thanks man. Yeah, I'm working on ordering one. My local store can't give an ETA on when if I order. I'm thinking of calling Bass Emporioum in Austin, TX...they list for $499, but I think they do a complete set up before sending, so I'll see how much it'll be. Or worst order from Mucisian's Friend which I'm not a fan of doing so...not supporting local y'know. We'll see. I'll keep you (and others) posted. I've played on Ebony f/b on a Carvin 6 stringer btw, it's really nice - which it should, it was a $1400.00 bass.

OK, so MasterMold suggested to ck out sweetwater.com, they don't have the bass in stock. So, I went and ordered it on Bass Emporium. It's suppose to be in stock 8/15, they will ck intonation and full set up before sending it to me. I'm not big on ordering on line, but my local guy can't seem to get anything out of Fender...so here I go on line shopping. They do charge shipping, but with buying from MF or GC or even SA, they just ship w/o doing a complete set up, so it's a wash, since my local guy would charge about $35 - $40 for it. So no eta, but I know I'll be going crazy after 8/15 to start counting the day till it gets here. MasterMold and Ally, thanks for the suggestions, as usual, I think highly of your oppinion(s).

Don't forget to put up pics when you get it. AND a report on that fretboard.

I certainly will. I found out what ebonol is, it's a synthetic material with a strength and texture of ebony wood. I don't know how accurate that is, it's off of Wikipedia. :)

If you start to pace remember not to pace in the same area for too long or you will have to replace the carpet next.

I will go out on a limb and say that it is kinda like when they make a gemstone in the lab. Performs the same features but somehow misses the estetics of the actual gem that's been dug in the dirt. Missing those slighty unique characteristics that it would normally have.

Having said that it isn't cubic zirconia and I bet you will be pretty happy with it. Might even be a little more durable.

I think I do agree with your 2nd part of the statement. As far as diamonds go, dang it these women with their diamonds are forever

You're welcome -- sorry Sweetwater didn't have what you were looking for in stock. Sometimes it's better to wait for them to get it -- may take a week or two but on a bass you'll have for years you want to make sure it's right from the get go.

As for ebonol fretboards, I've got that on my Squier VM fretless jazz and it's okay. I don't know how it would sound on a fretted bass but on the fretless it works just fine.

As for this particular bass in general, I've played one and it's just not my style, but the reviews I've read have all been positive so if this is your thing (active electronics in a fiver for slap bass technique) I don't see any downside, especially for the price.
