I have a new Vintage Modified Jazz Bass® '70s Model #: 0306702509 and cannot quite figure out what the three knobs do and cannot find documentation. The middle knob appears to control volume. Clockwise full volume - counter clockwise no sound.

But the 1st and 3rd knobs perhaps are controlling tone of the front and back pickups, but I am having trouble telling the difference.

The first knob - closest to the headstock - seems to do absolutely nothing.

Can anyone help me understand the function of these knobs?

Thanks.

Basic Jazz bass setup:

Knob 1: volume neck pickup
Knob 2: volume bridge pickup
Knob 3: master tone

If one of the first two knobs produces no sound, you may have a bad connection or possibly a bad pickup.

Thanks so much. So with this information I now know that my new bass is faulty. The front knob does absolutely nothing so I am taking it into the authorized repair shop tomorrow. Thanks.
