Hi! I have an old Squier Affinity strat I bought a cupple of years ago, I was going to upgrade the electronics and pickups on it, so I tok it apart compleatly so I would have the body free of the neck, I figured it would be easyer to work on.

the stuff I ordered was a bit delayed so the guitar was lying around on my working table free of the neck for about a week. when my stuff finally have arrived I was eager to put the strat together with new fresh quality parts,

I soldered everything and insulated all of the wires, everything was just fine and dandy for re-assembly. to my big surprice and astonishment I found that the neck didn't fit the body anymore? somehow the neck had been growing wider at the neck joint, about 8 mm larger than it had been before, however I am not sure, it could have been the body shrinking too I guess? anyhow this is what happend to me and I still can not for the love of God understand it, I understand this might sound like a bad joke, but I assure you this really happend!

I tried to file the neck off but it was never a good fit after that, it was a cheap guitar and it's scrapped now. I just can't forget that wierd thing and thats why I am writing this, I'm hoping someone could come up with an explanation. and also to warn others about not to remove the neck on their Squiers I guess LOL . Cheers

Changes in size are possible if the humidity in the wood changes - from dry to humid; swelling and humid to dry; shrinking.

That 8 mm (~1/3") swelling, though, is almost impossible to believe... It would mean a really radical alteration, something like from extremely dry central heating environment to a water bucket in an open garage during a monsoon season...

Pics with measures, please..?

Thanks for the explanation, I was thinking it must be something like that. maybe the wood wasn't dry? maybe it contained water? Sorry, I don't have the guitar anymore, so I can't provide any pics, due to the heavy growing of that neck , I had to do some serious work on both neck and the neck joint on the guitar, unfortunatley I am not a carpenter or anything so I just messed the guitar up really bad, I was never able to play it again after that. yes I know that sounds incredible, but it's true, I messured the difference and sent the pics to the music store where I bought it, they didn't want to take it back  whats strange is that, this guitar was always inside in a warm room, I never tok it outside or anything.
