Hi all.

I recently found out about the various 60th anniversary Strat models, and found that the Classic Vibe model was within my reach. I've just ordered one and hope to receive it next week.

What are your thoughts on these guitars? I read and watched a few reviews on them before I ordered and there were hardly any negatives - is this really the case?

I'm thinking it will sit well with my Fender Classic Player 60's Strat. I'd have liked to go for the Fender Classic Player version this time too but those extra few hundred pounds were out of reach for me.

Ant :)

I think you will be hard pressed to find any negatives about the CVs. I think they are the most bang for your buck out there. I have owned two, the 50s Strat and a Thinline Tele; both were excellent guitars.
The pickups are fantastic, better than any MIM I've ever owned. The ping tuners are very nice also. The only upgrades I would recommend is the trem/block.

I'm real happy with mine! It came with a poor setup but I've sorted that now with a medium low string height and adjusted the bridge to float.

What trem block would you recommend? It bugs me that the trem arm only locks in one position and that position is not "handy". The hole for the arm is straight through the block so a spring in there doesn't help.

Apart from that and some very slightly sharp fret edges, it's a beaut and I love the pickups in it! :D

Ok, so the question has been sitting for a week, and no answers? On the official Squier guitars section of the Fender forums? Seriously?

I mean, I KNOW some of you folks have done this, so I KNOW that some of you KNOW which replacement block to order.

Is there a secret society I have to join? An initiation of some kind (I'm pretty broad-minded).

I'll even try a "Pretty Please"?

Here is a replacement for the Squier Strat trem block.

Mine plays and sounds like a dream. The setup has my bridge resting on the body, but I like that because I like hardtail strats. Sounds light years better than the 1996 MIM strat I once owned. It's literally like butter.

Unfortunately being a Squier, the selection of replacement trem blocks is REALLY limited. Personally I favor Callaham blocks on my Mexican Strats...in my never so humble opinion, they're WELL worth the xtra dinero, HOWEVER the folks at Callaham tend to get rather attitudinal at the mention of the name "Squier". I suspect they could probably custom machine anything you want, but I'd equally expect the price to be just as custom (not to mention they prefer to work from technical drawings anways). That said, I only really know of 3 options;

1.) -IF- your CV has the same metric mount screw spacing as an MIM Standard (you'd have to measure) you could replace the whole bridge with a Callaham MIM bridge. I'm not personally familiar with the CV's, but I"m pretty sure they use a metric spacing, so an MIM replacement bridge MIGHT work. At $165, this is a bit pricey, but I doubt you'd be disappointed.

2.) Again depending on IF your CV has the same mount screw spacing for the bridge as an MIM, you could obtain a stock MIM and then just use a Callaham block. This would get your out of pocket down around (or under) $100. If it were me, this is probably the route I'd go IF possible.

3.) Should your bridge mount screw spacing be different than an MIM (or vintage for that matter), then you really only have 1 option - Guitar Fetish. Now I have to say here that I have the GF blocks on a couple of my Strats and they are very decent for the price ($22). They're not AS good as the Callahams, but compared with those stock blocks, it will be a HUGE improvement. That said, MEASURE YOUR SPACING...while I can't speak to the CV's specifically, I -KNOW- that these blocks do NOT fit ALL imports...even in the Squier line. In some cases, the bridge plate to block holes may not line up or the hole for the trem arm may not line up. Trust me on this; I have a parts bin full of Strat style trems that even the GF blocks just don't fit! A lot of them do just fine...some don't.

One more quick note; the page musicmarty referenced is for a replacement bridge and while you CAN go that route, for the difference, I think the genuine Fender bridges are a bit better. I have a GF bridge on one of my Mexicans and it's decent enough, however given a choice for the bridge plate and saddles, I'd stick with Fender. Either way, if you're looking for JUST THE BLOCKS, here's the correct link...

http://www.guitarfetish.com/Solid-Steel ... c_221.html

(they also have brass blocks available as well, however personally I didn't care for the sound at all...YMMV)

Regardless if which route you choose, I again STRONGLY recommend that you measure twice...then measure again BEFORE you order! Whether you go Callaham, Guitar Fetish or Bob's Budget Guitar Parts, do yourself a favor and make sure you're ordering the correct block or bridge to fit your own instrument.

Okies...hope that helps!
