Hello GuitarDoctor,

Some like blondes, some like brunettes

I don't feel there are any tonal differances
but many have the opposite opinion,
which is ok.

Maple boards have a finish on them

Maple boards can appear dirty when finish
is worn off.

My 2Cents

Cheers.

Both are excellent. It is a personal preference on which one you like best.

I'm a Rosewood guy myself.

The best way to resolve this dilemma is get at least one of each. Here is my spin through research when I was trying to decide.

1) Maple fretboard are preferred if you do a lot of string bending.

2) Rosewood IMO have a better sustain.

3) I find Rosewood better for hammer-ons and pull-offs, but not by much.

With my Tele and Strat that I have at home, they are both Maple. I have two Strats that should have shipped to me today - one Maple, one Rosewood.

If you are buying just one for now, I say go to the store and try them both.

I have guitars with both Maple and Rosewood and personally I much prefer the Maple...

Saying that it's probably because I'm a Gilmour fan and he uses Maple on both his Black and Red Strats...

Do you find a difference when bending? I feel the bends are executed much more smoothly and with more sense of control.

Just Strum

I do find a difference with the Maple Neck for bending etc. but I do use GHS Boomers as well which are sublime for bending...

Here's my maple necked Tele and my 62 Jaguar with the rosewood frets... Maple looks much nicer and ages well...
