Hello people, I have a question about the Squier name and what it means as far as model or place of origin. I was at a store today and I saw a Squier, but on the headstock it had Squier II, what does that tell me and how does it differ from a Squier?

thanks,

Strum

PS: this is my first post, so I'm not set up yet. Just an FYI, I own a 2004 American Fender Deluxe and looking to expand the Fender family but in a more economical way.

I'm going to take a wild stab at this......

I think the II indicates it was made in Korea....

I'm not sure. I thought I saw a post somewhere when I Googled that mentioned India or Indonesia, but I can't find it now. Not saying they weren't made in Korea or Korea too (no pun intended), I just don't know if they would use that as a identification of place of origin.

Well, I guess I'll continue to dig.

Well, I looked into two and they are both from Korea. One is a Squier Deluxe, but I'm not sure if it's plywood. Did they use plywood for the Deluxe? If they didn't that might explain the varied results of Korean guitars. Maybe the less expensive models plywood and the Deluxe solid?

I really don't know, the Squier Strat is sort of new to me and I know nothing of it's history and manufacturing.

Hmmm....although Squier guitars are inexpensive, I don't think they are that cheap. What I've noticed as common woods from overseas are primarily basswood, and some ash and mahogany.

As far as that Deluxe line goes....I'm really, really sold on those. (I've been playing since 1885 or so.) In fact, it appears that the price reduction isn't from factors in terms of the wood, action, cut, or finish, but a lot of the hardware which can be easily modified.

What do you like and dislike about your Squier, origins aside?

For me it's not Squier, but the shape of the Strat. My American Deluxe feels like it was custom made for me.

Other likes is the obvious low cost that enables you to get a good guitar. I've heard a lot of good things about the Squier Strat Deluxe and there are just too many people raving about it for it not to be anything less than good bang for the buck.

I will admit to not being a big fan of the Strat or Tele sound, but now I'm hooked.

I'm passing on the Squier II. I just won a new Squier Strat Deluxe and probably will get served with divorce papers tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in the Squier II PM me and I'll send you the link. I haven't read the rules here and I'm not sure if attaching links is allowed.

The sound grows on you. Especially if you're a fan of volume swells. The neck pickup just sings....the bridge has a nice, rhythm tone. (I think it's a different mentality vs. humbucking guitars where you'll see a lot of players apply crunch to the bridge position. I tend to dial in a strat or tele in the exact opposite manner.)

Sorry to hear about your divorce.... :(

Dodged a bullet by putting one of my non-Fender/Squier guitars up for sale on eBay. I'm not sure if you can mention other brands here, but no big deal, I'm not here to talk other brands.

I asked a similar question about Squier II guitars as I was buying a Maple Squier II neck off of ebay for my black Squier Strat.

The answers I got on this forum was that Squier IIs were a cheaper version of the Squier and made in Korea (or somewhere over there)

I've competed the project and can only say that the neck is amazing and I would always recommend them... not sure about the actual guitar body itself but the neck is good...

The Sentry... it really does play well and the neck is worth a lot more to me than the $50 I paid on eBay...

I'll probably upgrade the machine heads (tuning pegs) to Fenders once I find a good price on eBay but besides that it's perfect. The current tuners aren't brilliant...

The guy who set it up for me did a superb job and the action is excellent... I just need to learn to play better

I also have a Fender Jaguar and Telecaster and I must admit this is now my main guitar because it plays so well...

Sentry,

Very nice guitar. The neck looks nice, if you don't mind me asking - what did the neck cost you?

I just received my Squier Deluxe today and it is everything the reviews say it is and more.

That's the new one on the right, my Fender American Deluxe (mod to HSS) in the middle and another make on the left. I will say the Squier holds its own when playing next to the American Strat.

I have another Squier Strat arriving Friday, but I'm not sure what model it is. Sort of a "grab bag" thing. I do know that it has a birdseye neck with rosewood fretboard and the body is yellow.

Here's a pic of the whole gang prior to the two latest purchases. I'm slowly converting over to Fender and Squier, but funds limit a rapid change over. Am I going to get in trouble for having another brand in my photo?

Just Strum...

The neck cost me $50 off of eBay... a bargain methinks! I do need to change the tuners though as they aren't that good....
