I desperately need help with a wiring problem. I have a Squier Strat, along with three Fender Deluxe guitars. The Squier is a favourite, because it was my first guitar, and I have given it a lot of care. Some days ago I bought three Seymour Duncan Custom Staggered, and new pots and wires and a new five-way switch. The volume pot is a push-pull switch, an I was meaning to make it select the bridge pickup. I used the schematics found at Seymour Duncans website, and I am almost certain I did it right, and I have been staring and staring at my work, yet it doesn't work. I am staring me blind, i think. :cry:

A description of how it doesnt work: in volume pot pushed in down position, the middle pickup works in 2., 3., and 4., position as it should, but not the neck and bridge, at all, in their positions. The bridge pickup works when i pull the volume pot switch, and the middle pickup also works as it should in pushed position. But the neck pickup still doesnt work.

I hope I have described good enough so that someone understand my problem, because I sure do not understand what I have done wrong. I hope someone see what I have done wrong and can answer me and point me to what to do.

First, you must show the Seymour Duncan wiring schematic , send the link .

1- You may use the wrong schematic for what you want to do.

Or

2- You do some mistake in wiring .

3- Some switch do not work or do not work like you want.

photos of your work may help .

Hi!

Here's the link to the schematics I used:
http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=switch_f_bp

I'll take photos as soon as I get home.

Thank's , easy to follow this wiring diagram . You can't do something wrong ( ? )

I did not study it yet to see how it work with your PU.

Switches are not working or not working like you think , check contact with Ohmeter .

After reading your post and looking at the wiring schematic ;

Sure your wiring is wrong with the 5 position pickup selector , wrong wire or bad solder .

Do you do this kind of mod often ( and soldering ) or it is first time ?

It is my first time soldering, yes.

It would be very cool if this worked out in the end, because the sound I got from the functioning choices were insanely good! I pray to my Jimi Hendrix shrine every morning now.

+1 Soldering to pots and switches can be frustrating when joint looks good but isn't

These are the best images I could get. Took them with my phone, only these two turned out to be usable (I was pretty drunk last night).

The last one is of a moose I caught skulking around the school where I work.

The images are crappy, I know, and the soldering looks horrible. But that will be on the inside, the key word here is functionalism, besides, I got plenty of flaws inside my head too. It's the looks that matters in the end, right?

But isn't it possible to tell what is my problem by figuring it out from what works and what doesn't? Look at my first post, if anyone understands the electronics behind pickups, it should be possible to derive from that what is my fault?

Sorry but solders are all poor ,very bad job . You need to practice on a pieces of junk .

Sure you do your best but guitar can't work well like that . Bad looking solder = bad electrical contact.

You have to desolder every wire , clean solder and do a new job . But pratice before .
Don't worry we all begin like you.

To clean solder you need desoldering tool. Something like that ;

Good tools is a good invest for live .
