Hello all.
I've included a new guitar in my future purchases and I think I just found the one.
Squier Vintage Modified 70's Strat. 300€, not so expensive. Black with maple fretboard seems to be perfect for a Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan.
Although, I was looking for some information about this one from experience owners.

Is there any tuning problems while doing an extensive jam?
have you found any problems with it when moving the guitar to other houses, studios or stages?
And, finally, is it a good instrument for a guitarist who likes to play all the afternoon, but who plays at home almost all the time and occasionally plays with friends in a garage and plays live aswell some simple songs with a local guitar class, once per a year?

Thanks in advance for reading.

Nothing wrong with the VM, if you have your mind set on it.

But, IMHO: To me, the big 70's headstock really screams NotGilmour. And, if you're planning to have the guitar for a long time with a lot of enjoyable playing hours, you might want to try the Classic Vibe series - a bit more expensive, but the quality covers the difference. Of course, the MIM's are a very good alternative, too.

As far as electronics go, the original or the CS version both have a bit more in them than the Squiers or MIM's. But don't be disappointed by that: Gilmour would sound like Gilmour with a tennis racket for a guitar and a barrel for an amp.

+1 for Classic Vibe

I fully understand that and I can also consider those options. The only problem I find with the Classic Vibe are the colours. Almost all of them don't match my style. I see that there's one similar the the #01 Gilmour Strat and the VIntage Sunburst is gorgeous, but the one I already have is already Vintage Sunburst.

Hello all

I’ve been eyeing both the VM Black with Maple Neck and the CV50s sunburst.

The Black/aged maple VM strat is gorgeous. Huge Gilmour Fan and though I know he doesn’t have the CBS style headstock, I just love the look of the black with aged maple. I suppose my question is if neck and body wise, the CV50s is that much of a difference. I have a bunch of spare parts so if I did go down the road of the VM Black/Maple, I can put Spurzel Tuners, CTS Pots, Fender Blade 5-way switch, CS69 Pickups with an SSL5 bridge, a new trem block etc. if any of that is even necessary. I have all of this on hand so no out of pocket cost. I’ve read a lot of reviews of both these guitars and all say the pickups are great as is so another thought I had was I can even sell the spare pickups and basically grab one of these up with little out of pocket cost altogether.

Hoping to make a move on one of these in a month or two so for now just gassing, and comparing and its tearing me apart.

cheers

I think that Squier VM '70s has A LOT of Pink Floyd Pompeii vibe.
Go for it!

Indeed.

I certainly keep coming back to that one. That tinted maple neck with the black is pretty hard to resist. At that price, it’s certainly worth checking it out. Now I just have to submit a purchase order to Mrs. C and make my case for approval.

I NEED this.

I’m even curious about the Duncan Designed pickups. The bridge pickup on this is around 10k from what I’ve read. The SSL5 is around 13k and it can be a bit over the top so curious to see how this one sounds.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hello. I had both a CV 60's and CV 50's and sold them to buy a VM 70's Strat and a VM Tele SSH. Could not be happier. I guess I just like the sound of those Duncan designed SC101's in the VM 70's better than I did the sound of either of the CV Strats. I think the the CV 50's had DD alnico 3s and the 60's one had DD Alnico 5's (not super sure about that). I dunno, matter of taste in hearing I suppose. Anyway, hope this helps you decide. You really won't go wrong either way-It's still the best guitar in the world -the Strat!
Cheers

Thanks very much for your input. From what I’ve seen on product demos those Duncan Designed Pickups seem right up my alley. I have CS 69s and love the cleans but could use something a wee bit hotter, I installed an SSL5 in the bridge but I think that’s a tad too hot for me. These seem like a good middle ground. I’m pretty much settled on the black beauty but then I came across the 3 tone sunburst one. Not sure what if anything is different as the specs seem identical so not sure why one is “70s” and the other isn’t but both are really nice. Hopefully Mrs. C approves my purchase order request. Haven’t suffered from GAS this bad ever.

I recently bought a 70s VM Strat, black on black with maple and I couldn't be happier with it... i strung it with 10's, tightened the trem screws all the way in and even had it tuned to drop C... bent the hell out of the strings, diving the bar all over and just banging the hell out of it... It never goes out of tune...
