A friend just gave me a Squire Affinity Strat. The serial number is on the neck plate and according to the look up I did, the G'tar was made in China
and the date of manufacture is 1970. It's also stamped made in China on the plate. I didn't know they were making Squires in 1970.
The serial # is NC709993. Everything on it looks stock. The pu's are ceramic and the neck is maple with a rosewood FB.
Thanks for any info.

Fender was making guitars in china before Nixon went there in '72? Unless you mistyped I think you're mistaken.

It must be 1997 or 2007.

OK...I miss understood the explanation on the serial look up. The first number after the "NC" is the year.

Thanks Dolores. The Strat might need a new neck. The frets don't seem to be in good shape.
So I guess the date of manufacture can be '77, '87, '97, or 2007. Just sent Fender an Email requesting info on the g'tar. Hope I can find a neck ,if needed.

No, it could not have been made in 1977 or 87.
The serial NC7XXXXXX could have been for a Squier made in 1997, but it isn't. Korea used NC6 for 2006-2007 until the very end, and then stopped using NC after just a few NC7s.

Since it's stamped with Made In China, there's little doubt it's from 2007. Fender will likely not be able to give you more information, as these are made outsourced.

A new neck would probably cost you more than the guitar is worth.

you can get the frets levelled. Possibly cheaper than a new neck.
But than again, you can get well-made necks from China these days for around $50-60.

theres lots of necks on ebay that would fit fine. Dont use 10s. Use 9s easier on the frets.

Plus you can get any prewired pickguards on Amazon n just drop one in. Saw the Tex Mex for 125 or they had other fender ones a tad more expensiive.

I use 10's on mine and it's just fine. E-Bay is your best source for used Affinity necks. I've seen them going for the prices you've mentioned.
