I'm a new player (5 months), with a Squier SE starter, and it seems like that there's one section of the neck, from about the 5th to the 9th frets on the strings in the middle, where the string buzz no matter what I do. I can push straight down on the string with my finger in between the frets, and it buzzes. It goes away if I got higher or lower on the neck.

My teacher said he doesn't notice it, and that some buzzing is to be expected for this level of guitar. Is that true, or should I be considering getting a set up or something? The intonation and tuning are pretty good - we checked those.

Thanks for your input!

Has it always done this or did it just start all of a sudden? I can guess that maybe as you develop technique you are causing the buzz yourself and therefor it is noticeable to you. Have you changed your string lately? I changed my once and forgot that it was a new diameter and the next day when I went to use it I was like "wow...... what happened!!??" I don't now if a tired string could cause your problem but if your new maybe you pushed on it way to hard and damaged it or something. I use to really press way to hard ... I've developed a more gentle touch now. Also I live in Florida and even though I have air conditioning my apartment suffers from climate changes and I believe I've noticed this in my guitar neck.... if you can believe it.... hot for a long time neck changes.... cold for a long time nech changes. It can be frustrating or maybe it's my imagination. I hope this is helpfull

It's been doing it for a while, and through a change of strings (same guage). I think it's been happening all along, but my playing wasn't good enough for it to be noticeable. I'd still blame my playing if I hadn't tried just pushing a single string with one finger.

The over fretting is a distinct possibility, but again, the buzz seems to be independent of the age of the strings. It's independent of how hard I push down, though - I tested that.

I'm looking into a set up.

Thanks, all!
