Hi y'all! First post.

I just got a VM SSH Telecaster. I am loving it a lot except for one thing. All of the frets are flat on top. As if they had been leveled but not re-crowned. They are all about 0.045" tall.

I bought it online so I didn't get a chance to see it before I bought it. If I had I would not have bought it.

Has anyone ever seen this on a brand new guitar? I've been playing for about 2, close to 3 years now, and have never seen this before.

Thanks.

Well, I'm not surprised that nobody has seen this kind of thing before. It is weird to me that these frets are like they are.

I played one of those guitars, but it was so long ago, I cannot remember how the frets were. Fret wire actually comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and profiles, like some of the options shown here:
http://www.warmoth.com/supplies/supplie ... n=fretwire
and as explained and shown through tables here:
http://www.lutherie.net/fret.chart.html

As long as all the frets are the same, I would then suspect that they are supposed to be that way. If only a few frets were different, than something is wrong. You have to remember, they are the VINTAGE MODIFIED series, so its a combination of vintage style parts and ideas as well as modern parts and ideas. I would not be surprised if the frets were modelled after vintage era frets or something along those lines. I hope that helps, if you still think something is wrong with the guitar, I would either get in touch or arrange an exhange with the dealer you bought it from...
