Hi there,

I recently bought a Squier Affinity Tele second hand and one of the bridge saddles has started to come loose. One of the screws must have slipped or come unscrewed somehow.

So I thought about buying new saddles but I figured that I might as well upgrade the whole bridge so it doesn't happen again. I have seen some reasonably cheap ones online so I thought it might be worth it.

Affinity's have top loader bridges so if i went for a through body bridge I assume I would have to drill some holes myself. Does anyone know if this is easy or not? Also my bridge only has 3 screws holding it down at the back but it looks like some others have 4, but I don't think this should be too much of a problem.

So is it worth installing a different kind of bridge on such a cheap guitar? Should I just get some new saddles?

I'm assuming all the angled pickup style Tele bridges will fit as well.

P.S. this is my first post, and thanks for any help in advance

I'd say, put that money aside to upgrade to a used MIM.

I don't know, they're like $1000 new here. I'd be lucky to get one for a decent price.

I replaced the stock bridge plate on my Squier Affinity Tele with a stock Squier Standard Tele string through bridge with Guitar Fetish stainless steel saddles. Its a direct fit.

I used the holes in the bridge plate as a template to drill the holes through the body. I don't have a drill press, so I used a hand electric drill. The holes are not all in line, but I don't care. They do the job.

I also removed he neck pickup and rewired the guitar as an Esquire with the Eldred mod. Bridge pickup is a DiMarzio Area T noiseless.

Tuners were replaced with Guitar Fetish locking tuners.

Nice. How much did it cost you for the bridge/saddles and those things that go in the back where you put the strings through? And do you think it improved the sound?

Saddles and string ferrules:

I cannot find the bridge. It was a Squire Standard Telecaster bridge with 2 1/16" string spacing, 5 mounting holes (2 small, 3 large), and six modern block bridge saddles.

Yes.

Alright thanks for that. It might just be worth it... I assume the bridge didn't cost too much if it's a Squier standard.
