I have an 2008 Squier Affinity Strat (Indonesia) that needs a 5 way pick-up switch.
I have a lot of hum in 3 positions. If I wiggle and move the switch handle a bit, it clears up.

1 Is there a better replacement switch available for this model that will fit?

2 Also, is it easy to replace? Like does it need to be soldered when rewired?

3 Also, what is the best way to remove the volume and tone knobs? They seem to be pressed on hard....

thank you,

D.

Not sure which would be the correct replacement switch, but I'm sure they are available and yes, you will need to de-solder the old switch and solder in the new switch.

For removing the knobs, take a shoe string or other strong string, place it under and around each knob and pull them off.

I'd be willing to bet there is nothing wrong with the switch. Single coil pickups hum. It is a fact of life. If the pickups hum in positions 1, 3, and 5 but are quiet in positions 2 and 4, the switch is functioning properly.

If the switch does prove bad, dump the cheap import switch and use a CRL switch:

Thx for the instruction and the link. And yes, it hums on 1, 3 & 5.
I am thinking of replacing the white knobs with black ones. Thx for that easy trick to get them off.

Again, if the guitar DOES NOT hum in positions 2 and 4, there is nothing wrong with the switch.
