I'd have to say the Fender Stratocaster Plus with one of each lace sensor pickups in it is pretty rare. The Fender Jag-Stang too is also rare because it wasn't sold out in the US it was made in Japan and only sold out there too

How about the Fender Electric XII?

http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/equipment/guitar/equip-fenderelectricxii.html

I wouldn't mind finding/being able to afford one, but I'll do better to keep my sights on a Fender Stratocaster XII.

Matt

I always had thought the XII was a well known fender (since being used in led zep IV recording of stairway). Mind you i'm quite surprised that so few people i talk to have never heard of an esquire, even supposed fender fans.

I think that the Fender Electric XII is way too common to be considered a least known guitar in Fender history. But the Fender Esquire was a great guitar to bring up because your right the Esquire is one of the least known.

It was the one pickup version of the Tele and Jeff Beck played it with the Yardbirds and by himself even the Fender Custom Shop made it as a Tribute series guitar. Along with Andy Summers Tribute beat up 1961 Humbucker Tele.

I'd also like to say another thing that really bothers me if some people order a relic guitar and complain that its beat up its not thats the way its supposed to be made. You dont order a relic guitar and not make it damaged. Even Keith Richards said "Why don't you bang em' up a bit then I'll play em' ".

Thats the cool thing about relic guitars and basses it looks like you've been playing since '68 but you bought the guitar in 2008. You people dont lie and don't perpitrate (sorry about the spelling) thats how the guitars were supposed to be made.

I'll have to agree with the Esquire being one of the lesser known Fenders, as well as also wondering how supposed Fender-heads don't know about 'em, especially when it has its own line in the Products listing. As to the Relic Fenders, I always love it whenever somebody at the Surf Guitar 101 Forums posts a link to a Musician's Friend listing of a "scratch-n-dent" Relic Fender. In the item description, there will be a line that says "Minor blemishes or scratches," so I'll hit the Reply button for that post, and ask (tongue in cheek, of course) "minor blemishes or scratches on a Relic...where?" :P

Never heard of a "Start" either. Given only your list, the Jaguar would be the "next" least known. Other good examples of the more obscure models above.

My friend had a Fender Katana and he swore by it. I played it a few times and knew right away why!
