Well about 14 years ago I picked up a Squier Affinity Strat in baltic blue and messed around on it for awhile but eventually gave up. I had a lot of fun with it but I just put it on the back burner and over time stopped. A few years later I sold the guitar to another aspiring player.

Now I'm back to wanting to play! I was cruising around good ol' musiciansfriend and saw the new Affinity series Strats and I must say, WOW! The new color options and two tone Squier headstock decals really make them a lot nicer than the ol' '99 Affinity series.

I've got my eye on the SSS Strat in surf green. It looks like coming back to playing is going to be a lot better than I thought. Kudos Squier for upgrading your beginner series!

As soon as I get the guitar in a month or so (whenever they come in stock online) I will be posting photos! Take care good buddies and fellow guitarists!

Congratulations. I hope it goes well for you. I've played keyboards for decades, bought a couple of guitars but never really got going. I decided 8 months ago to get more serious. I sold off my no name $100 electric and asked a friend to help me find a good guitar. He has played for 40 years so he knows what he is looking at and knows the feel better than I do at this point. He tried several Squiers for me and said they were all good guitars, way better than anything he could find when he started paying in the 70s. I bought a Strat and a Tele, both Squire Classic Vibe series. A co-worker told me his Classic Vibe Custom Tele is a better guitar than his old Fender Tele that he bought new in the late 60s. He owns many guitars but the Squier is now his daily "go to" guitar. I've stuck at it this time, mostly playing 30 minutes a day and I feel like I have gone beyond beginner and am entering into "Mediocre Guitar Player" status. I think that's a good achievement and I will keep working at it.

Let me offer this encouragement: I have seen many opinions about base model squiers; Bunk. With a little help, these can be fun and very playable instruments

I recently purchased what I believe is a 2003 Squier Strat (SE) and other pieces (SP10 amp, tuner, stand, etc.) from a craiglist ad for $45... I had no expectations and am pleasingly surprised. The neck was straight and finish was thin - I can see the wood grain through the finish (I take that as a good thing).

Since I am a tinkerer at heart, I considered the raw fret ends as a challenge that a file could fix and the surface of the frets would be smoothed by some steel wool. I dropped in a set of Fender American Standard pickups that were gathering dust, adjusted the floating tremolo, and set the intonation.

Presto! my cheap purchase is a usable guitar - had a guitar repairman look at it and he was impressed at the feel of the guitar regardless of what it cost...

You may not want to do what I have done but my Squier experience has been great.

Play like all Heaven is listening!

Purchased an Affinity Series Squier Strat.
I'm a begginer on limited funds, but I was set on getting a guitar no matter what it was.
Had to be black/white like my 99 Harley.
I found mine on a Guitar Center website. Bought it used from a place down the Carolinas.
I had the strings replaced and got a Mustang amp-
I'm makin sound...screamim tones into my ears and soul.
Wouldn't want it any other way..
Enjoy your past newfound friend. (guitar)

It doesn't matter if you payed $20 or $2000. If you like it and it makes you happy, that's the bottom line. Play happy my friends!
