Hey guys so I have a Standard Tele with a DiMarzio Super Distortion T (DP318 I think) on the bridge position. I recently had it installed and now that I'm hearing more of it, the neck pickup is starting to sound weak to my ears by comparison.
What's a great replacement for that such pickup, so that it balances well with the powerful bridge pickup I have installed? Bear in mind that it is possible to install a HB on the neck position.

If you have a Dimarzio SuperDistortion bridge pickup and it is the "cream" color, you might have some difficulty finding a neck replacement pickup that is the same shade of cream as the bridge Dimarzio.

I believe Dimarzio has its own shade of cream that it uses, but I could be wrong.

To be sure that the color tone of the pickups match, you might want to get a full sized cream colored Dimarzio humbucker for the neck; something that would sound good and balance out with the powerful SuperDistortion.

What is your SuperD? Single coil tele sized or full sized humbucker?

Dimarzio has great descriptions of the relative power of their pickups on their website. You can also call Dimarzio and tell them what pickup you currently have and ask what would be some really good options for a great sounding neck pickup. The phone number for Dimarzio technical advice is 800 221 6468.

It appeared that you were not absolutely sure if your bridge pickup is actually a Dimarzio SuperDistortion, unless I misinterpreted that. If you have any question as to if it is actually what you think it is, the techs at Dimarzio should be able to easily identify it from info you can provide them with, if you take out the pickup or remove the pickguard and look at the bottom of the pickup for identification markings. They should be able to identify exactly what you have without a problem.

A SuperDistortion doesn't have a tele traditional type twang to it. You might want to install a neck pickup that has some bite and twang to it; then again your preference might be to have a more full humbucking type sound, more like a Les Paul than a telecaster.

I have a telecaster with twin humbuckers on it and it is very cool. It is a reissue '72 Deluxe Telecaster with twin Wide Range humbuckers. Some don't, but I very much like the sound of the pickups. It is a brand new model. Maybe it has redesigned pickups on it, but, to me, those WRHB's sound great and not like a traditional telecaster but not like a Les Paul either - it is a unique sound.

It sounds like you are going to wind up with a really cool tele when you are done with the pickup change.

Did you install it or did somebody else ? There is a method for installing Telecaster bridge pickups that'll leave the stock neck pickup volume on the same level with the same as the bridge. If your new bridge pickup has 2 wires which are Black and White, then you can use this method. Here's what you do, first of all where the 2 wires meet underneath your pickup, there should be a small wire . You need to clip that in half, then you need to put the black wire on the pickup switch where the white wire would usually go and the white wire on the volume pot. If your guitar has a ground wire where the bridge is , then you won't need to do anything else. You should be all set. If not, then take a piece of wire, solder one end to the bottom of the volume pot and solder the other end underneath the bridge where it meets the body .
