Hello everyone! I am trying to find out the origins of my strat. I have owned it since I was a middle school child but it has taken an odd journey.

While I was in college this guitar was stolen from my house (along with a laptop and my ipod...) during a house party. It was missing for a few years but turned up to a pawn shop where the owners tracked me down (Hilariously the same pawn shop that had bought my stolen bike a few years before).

Unfortunately the idiot who stole the items had sanded the headstock information off, I'm sure to try and pass it off as a fender to the pawn shop. Luckily I had written my name in the inside of the tremolo cover and the pawn shop owners tracked me down by my college directory listing when inspecting the guitar later. I'm very thankful now that I filed a police report for the items or getting it back would have been impossible.

Anyway, recently I was trying to track down some information on where this guitar was made. I'm not certain on the year I got it. It was my first guitar and I received it as a gift for Christmas in either 1997 or 1998 (leaning toward 1998). It came in a strat pack. The headstock used to have the affinity logo on the ball, along with the large squier logo with by fender under it. The headstock is the smaller style. I do not remember for sure if the logo was all black, or gold. Next time I can look through some old photos I will find out. I believe that it was gold as my sister got a squier bass pack the same year and I remember wondering why the logo on the bass was solid black and not gold.

The body is 1.74" and nut 42mm measured with calipers. The single ply pick guard has 11 screws and the guitar is still the original SSS setup. I can see 2 seams on the body through the paint each about 3 inches from the center. I'll include some photos of the routes and electronics as well as the tuners and really dirty bridge saddles. I'm surprised there no random CNC spots outside of the main routes like I have seen on some of the others. One thing I did notice is that my tremolo covers center screws are not offset which looks to be uncommon. It is definitely original though. :D

I wish that I could dig up the serial number, but am not near the paperwork that might have it right now. Even then I'm not sure I still have a record of it unfortunately.

Thanks for any insight!

It definitely isn't a fender label strat, but it is a squier that at least I know for sure. I was just wondering what country it came from since I cannot reference the serial or headstock information anymore. I thought maybe someone here might see the different specs of this one and have an idea where it might have come from of the top of their head.

If you can't dig up the serial number, no chance. And even with the number: it's always a pain in the ash tracking the cheaper Squier models - they just don't have the commercial value that would make someone interested enough.

Pick your favorite Asian country, use the day&month of your birthday as the manufacturing date and enjoy playing.
And don't ever try to sell her as a vintage MIJ Squier
