Quick question here, what pickguard color/pattern is good with a candy apple red guitar?
I'm considering plain black and red tortoiseshell. Any others? You can send in pics, yeah that'll be awesome.

Your choices of color and design is unlimited.

I have a Squier Strat, black, that my son airbrushed a flag design on the pickguard. Now he did it while I was gone and surprised me with it. I never thought that it would look as good as it does. But the red white and blue pattern really stands out nicely on the guitar. Love it.

He's airbrushed "Grumpy" on my musicmaster bass guard as well. Also a black bass so that design is in black/gray on white. With the black headstock on that one the whole bass has a nice color coordinated look.

You can go to a place like WD Music and get all kinds of stock guard designs. One other suggestion that I've seen but never done is to cut a guard out of clear plexiglass, that way you can remove it and put a different design on it whenever the mood strikes you.

There's also my "crashocaster" theme Fender Musicmaster that I'm still waiting to get back from the luthier, totally bright and colorful, a total opposite from the Grumpy black/white theme.

Just some thoughts, go crazy, go wild, go subtle, it's all up to you, it's your guitar. I actually had one goober tell me at a gig that he thought the Grumpy bass was a "dumb" design, whatever dude, have a good life!

Hmm from the way you pointed it out, you are right. I have the absolute liberty to design my guard in a number of ways. :) I guess it's one to invest on.
Man, from those pictures I can say you have a very talented son! Makes me wish I know someone close who can do these things for me too! Congrats on your Strat (the maple fretboard helps in making the flag stand out as well) and that Musicmaster, a rare piece! Oh and I don't think that Grumpy design is stupid. Makes the Musicmaster all the more unique.

I know this is the Squier forum, and guitar too. But since we were talking about experimenting/painting I wanted to share this with you.

My '78 Musicmaster bass, also painted by my son. I just got it back from the luthier today and played it at practice tonight, it plays and sounds as sharp as I think it looks. Love those new DR black strings too! Gonna get a set for the Grumpy bass.

I think a white pearloid would look Killer on a Candy Apple Red guitar. I got this one from GFS
