Hi all, I have a Squier made in Japan stratocaster with a serial number E849000. From what I've gathered this is an 88 Japanese strat. People always rave about the 84-87 Japanese strats Fender or Squier, is the 88 strat the same beast as the 84-87 strat? I was reading a post somewhere and it said that after 87 Fender made cuts to the Japanese factory, so I'm just wondering about the quality of post 87 vs pre 87 strats. Also I have these screws with these circular metal things on the head holding strings down. What is the purpose of this?

The year is a loose guide line, the real test is how well does it play? I've played MIA Strats that didn't play as well as my as well as my MIJ E5 Squier Strat.
The string Tee's help keep the strings seated in the nut.

Oh so that's what they're for, thanks. Yea I don't really have anything else to compare it to as this was my first electric guitar purchase, but I am enjoying it, I think it's a great guitar so far, just a little trouble with the pickups and the switches and knobs on it. Lots of noise as of now, but I think I just need to go in a check it all out when I change my strings

Sometimes it's just a dirty pot or a loose ground wire. Output jack is always my first place to look.
