I just picked up this CV Tele at a pawn shop CHEAP and I'm extremely pleased with it. :D After cleaning and restringing it, I plugged in and the pups sound darn good!

I was so impressed that I thought maybe they weren't the stock pups... I'm no snob - I'm perfectly happy playing a Squier, but the bridge pup in particular sounds just fantastic! Too good to be true almost. So anyway, upon close inspection, I noticed that the bridge pup has a waxed cotton string-wrapped bobbin. Very boutique-like! If that is a stock CV Squier pup, wow!

Do stock CV bridge pups utilize cotton wrap or the more modern nylon bands? I'll eventually pup the bridge off and look, but I literally just put new strings on it so I don't want to pull it off and inspect just yet. If anyone could shed some light, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Wow! I'm sure those are the stock pickups now! Nice little vintage touch with the cotton wrapped bobbins... Thanks for the link! I am totally impressed with this little Squier!

Those pickups are more than just a "vintage touch".

The CV50's Vintage Blonde Tele pickups mimic Tonerider's Hot Classics (Alnico III) Tele pickup set and the CV50's Butterscotch Blonde Tele pickups mimic Tonerider's Vintage Plus (Alnico V) Tele pickup set.

In fact, the CV50's pickups are made in the same factory as the Tonerider pickups AND if you compare the ohm's reading's on the CV50's and Tonerider pickups, they are exactly the same! What does THAT tell you? :D

I wouldn't get to excited about that bridge pup, they are notorious for going dead at a moments notice..google search this problem  They do sound good however, if your going to be gigging out with it, I personally wouldn't take the chance with it going dead..I would swap it out.

Hey, Matt, I adhere to the axiom that says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Besides, I honestly believe that the talk about premature pickup failures with the CV50's Tele's is much ado about nothing. If you follow the threads on the forums, there are actually more folks who have never had an issue than there are those who have!

Just sayin'...

Well, I have had this Tele for almost six months and I'm happy to report no issues with the pickups. In fact, I'm still lovin' them! The only issue I intend to address is the input jack. Mine is starting to loosen like many of those stock Tele jacks. I have a new one (of a different design) in my parts bucket, I just haven't gotten around to swapping it out. Overall, awesome guitar for next to nothing. I can't even remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't more than $120 or so.
