hello guys, newbie here.

i just want to ask some questions about squier. because i've been a fender fan ever since i was a little kid. and now i am 20 years old. i owned a fender strat floyd rose 2 with trem system, japan made ( it was my dad's actually and he just gave it to me. ) he bought it way back 1993 and it was in my possesion for about a year. the guitar lasted for like 20 years ( as age as me ) it would have lasted for more than a decade but my dad was not able to take a good care of it. sadly, i gave up using the guitar because the frets became very thin and stuff. then i decided to have a brand new guitar. so i went looking for a cheaper one with a good specs, then i found the Squier Vintage Modified telecaster. it caught my eye. i rushed into the guitar store and bought it. and now i have it. im so happy with it, it sounds very good. i really like it. i really dont know much about fender but what i do know is that they are very sturdy and durable. i want to know if the squier has thesame quality. and i found out that this VM tele was made in indonesia, i was hesitant, but i bought it anyway because its cheap but its pretty awesome. then the other day, my guitar fell on the ground face down ( luckily it was inside its soft case ) then the next day, my 3 year old niece sat in the neck ( near the body ) of my tele. i am a bit worried. because i want this guitar to last more than the strat i owned.

the reason why i asked is because i am concerned about the durability of the guitar. SPECIALLY its neck. because im planning to play this in a concert someday and i move around a lot, i might accidentally bang it or what. and im not sure when if im planning to buy another guitar. please tell me all you know about squier because i think they are pretty different in terms of quality.

sorry for the long post. thanks :)

Tele guitars are pretty tough. Plus, if you ever did have a neck problem, they are easily replaced. Good luck and have fun! :D

Get that Strat refretted, great guitar! Also, even the best guitars don't tolerate abuse for long, don't let them fall over or let anyone sit on them!

Squier are no less durable than Fenders. They are built to shrug off most abuse and as long as you take sensible precautions, they will last a lifetime. Teles are also so easy to repair and modify and parts are easily available.
I have a 1980's Korean Telecaster and although there is fret wear and a few dinks on the body, it plays fine and still looks the part.
Clearly Guitars are not made to be sat on, but if any serious damage was done, the first thing you would notice would be that it is out of tune.
Just check the neck bolt area for cracks.
A bit of damage gives the Guitar that used look to it, so don't despair if you get a few chips and dents on it.
The main thing is to enjoy it, take reasonable precautions about where you lay it down and keep it in its gigbag when not in use.

While this is bit of a subjective statement on my part, ANY guitar is only as durable as the person using it. If you take decent care of your gear, it usually takes care of you. Likewise however, any guitar is also subject to abuse, again regardless of brand. I've seen headstocks and even necks snapped on Fender's, Gibson's, Kramers and even one Rickenbacker (the Rick just broke my heart). My late 60's Kay P-bass got knocked over by a guy we were auditioning once and the headstock snapped...p_ssed me off big time because the guy did it while I was out of the studio then tried to hide it behind the PA speaker.

Think of it this way, if you put your guitar in a decent hardshell case and take care when moving it and such, you don't typically have any problems (again regardless of brand). On the other hand, if you just zip it up in a stinkin' gig bag, toss it in your trunk and toss your amp and the rest of your gear on top of it...yea...sooner or later you're going to break something (again regardless of brand). If you're going to pull a Pete Townsend and smash it on stage...brand really has no bearing on that what so ever!

That said, stuff like fret maintenance and such goes with the turf. It's not a matter of brand...not that Fender frets last longer than Gibson frets or Squier or anything else of that nature. That's more a matter of fret thickness (mediums vs. jumbos) and things of that nature. With that however, ANY guitar that is played regularly will eventually require that the frets be leveled and if ya play it enough, sooner or later those frets will need to be replaced. Whether that's 10 years or 20 years or 50 years has nothing to do with the brand, it's about how much the guitar is played. Same goes for stuff like the electronics as well. Sooner or later every volume and tone pot needs a quick squirt of contact cleaner.

And just for the record...there's no reason you have to have only -1- guitar. At the immediate moment, I have somewhere between 25 and 30 down in the studio...with 10 of them being Strats, both Fender and Squier of various lineage. Had 12 but recently sold off 2 of the cheapy knock-offs. I will typically use certain guitars for certain songs on stage and other guitars for other tunes. In fact some days I wake up and just feel like playing the red one and other days I feel like playing the blue one! LOL!!! Seriously...every guitar has it's own unique voice and character...there's no reason you need to own ONLY 1. If you like that VM, then play the crap out of it and if you ever decide your ready for an upgrade...or even just something different, then hang on to it.

Also just for the record, some VERY decent instruments have come out of Fender/Squier in Indonesia. My "International" partscaster has a neck from an 03' Squier Standard Strat and it's really a fantastic neck...no issues at all. Same goes for many of the instruments coming out of Fender/Squier China as well. I have an '08 Crafted in China Squier Standard that's simply one of the loveliest finishes I've ever seen. If I have any complaint about that guitar at all, it's simply the pickups...but then I don't even like American Fender pickups so go figure. Personally I'm a Duncan and EMG fan. Seriously...don't sweat the part of the world where it was made. If you enjoy that sucker, then just play it!

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

From the sound of things You need to get a good Hardshell case and keep it in it unless you playing. Most guitars get damaged because of stupidity on the part of the owner not on the quality of the guitar. If you want to keep it out get a wall hanger.don't just lean it up against a chair or lay it on the couch you just asking to get it ruined.
