(Sorry I put this thread in the wrong board before)

Hi I'm new here. Just started playing electric about a month ago. Though the bullet strat HSS would be a good start. Just yesterday my high-e snapped. So I came to the issue bout buying new strings. I play a lot of Seether, and Slipknot and other heavy metal and grunge bands. In essence, I play a bunch of songs in drop tuning. So after a while of looking through which string to buy, I came across these: http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/12 ... _10-46.htm DR - Drop Down Tuning Electric Strings. The ones I need are 11-54. They are stainless steel and uncoated. These are the questions I have: Are these good strings for me? Will my fingers adjust alright because these are really hard/thick strings? Will these strings last long? Are these strings good for my guitar?

That's about it.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could help a bud out because I'm pretty new to this and I really want to know if these are good quality strings. And if not, I'd also appreciate if anyone could tell me which strings are good for me and my guitar.

Another quick thing, I play about 1-2 hours a day. And a total of about 5 hours on weekends.

Thanks so much.

Try Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky, I used them for open E, open G and open D, they're made to de-tune. https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/produ ... CHoQ8wIwBg

And about your fingers... its normal for every beginner to have calluses and blisters, so just keep playing and eventually your fingers will adapt and will no longer be affected.

Thanks so much however I live in Canada and I can't find the "Beefy" ones. Are there any other Ernie Ball strings you recommend?

If you upsize to 11's you may have to have your nut reslotted to fit them. I haven't had any issues using the 10's though.

Will the tens support the tuning I play in though?

Your going to just have to give it a go I think. I would buy some less expensive strings and try it out.

If you can't get your hands on beefy ones, try to find the gauge you can get as close to the beefy ones. You're welcome!

If you search the forums here, you'll actually see there's quite a few newbie string posts. That said...

You don't really need a specific brand strings for any kind of alternate tunes. Strings, like most things guitar related are typically just a matter of preference. If you like the heavier bottom strings, personally I recommend GHS Boomer "Light/Heavys"...they go from .010 to .052. I've probably used virtually ever brand of string out there at one time or another and I've always come back to Boomers. They're reasonably affordable and they have a great balance between tone and longevity. I actually do like the Fender strings as well, but I change the strings on my 3 or 4 gigging guitars usually twice a month (used to be more before I started using that Dunlap 65 stuff) and I have somewhere around 25 guitars total at the moment, so that extra $2 a pack adds up quick! That said, some folks like EB Slinkys, some like Fender strings and others like other brands still...no real right or wrong there in any case.

And calluses are normal for a guitar player...you earn them by playing :-)

Peace,
Jim

Thank you all for your replies! At first I went with the EB Slinky Beefy and my fingers didnt have any problems. I loved them. I just recently changed to the EB Not Even Slinky (12s). I really like them too. Thanks again for helping me out guys!
