Hey folks. I'm new here. Just picked up an 80's E series MIJ Strat and had some questions. I know the E series were made between 1984-1987. Is there a way to narrow down the year by the serial number? My serial number is E822376. It's Lake Placid Blue (I think) with a maple fret board. Also, the bridge pickup was changed out to a blade style pickup. I would like to take it back to the original style pickup. Is there a source for parts for guitars from this era other than Ebay? I will post some pics of it tomorrow. Thanks!

Your guitar is either 1987 or 1988, the E8 being the tip off. As far as the pickup goes, unless your looking for a 100% restoration any Strat single pole pickup will work. It's all about finding the sound your after.

Yep i concur, E8 suggests 87/88 E= eighty 8= year of manafacture, yes normally years have a tendancy to overlap on the serial numbers.

With my E5 I had planned on flipping it as it looks really nice and I wouldn't have any problem getting top price for it. Then I made the mistake of playing it, what a sweetheart of a guitar! I played a wall full of new MIM and MIA Strats lately and couldn't find any that felt better although a few of them felt just as good. The new stuff does have a little better finish and that new guitar smell but I just couldn't see why I needed to upgrade. I say find your sound through pickup selection and play on!
