My original tuners just didn't impress me and since I had these laying around I installed a set of Planet Waves auto trim style tuners on one of my project Squier Strats just to see if they were any good. They are awesome plus it was the fastest restring I've ever done in my life, very cool!

Thanks for posting the link. Those look like they might work. My drummers Bullet Strat has these tuners

and they aren't working very well anymore. I was hoping to replace them for him but do not want to do any drilling. A better quality direct replacement would be ideal.

Happy New Year Squier people !
I learned a couple of things while waiting for a response. First, my drummers Strat is an Affinity model. Second, if you remove the tuners and take them apart then add a drop of gear lube to them they will work just fine. Mission accomplished, hope y'alls had a great Christmas. :D

Will those fit on a Affinity Strat without having to do any enlarging of the holes on the headstock ?

Hi Jeff, the tuners in the photo are the originals that I repaired (cleaned and lubed lol). I thought about replacing them with the similar looking Fender tuners available on this website but had the same concern "will they fit?". That was when I took them apart and discovered they were just dirty and it was an easy fix. :D

I finally replaced the tuners on my MIJ Squier Strat last weekend as well. It's almost unbelievable how wobbly the stock tuners are compared to the autolocking ones I replaced them with. And all that was holding them was the two tiny wood screws on the back, the bushings on the front are just for show.
Had to ream the holes out to 10mm, but that went without any problems. Definitely worth the upgrade.

I replace the stock tuners with guitar fetish.com locking tuners. I pay about $34 for them and then have to hand ream out the holes up to 10mm. It sounds like a big deal, but it is very easy and makes a big difference in staying in tune... Big improvement.
