Hi, I am a newbie. I just bought a new Squier Deluxe Stratocaster which has a one piece maple neck/fingerboard. I like the guitar very much. But I just wonder if the fret dots (position markers) are painted? So as the "brown" line on the back of the neck?

If so, will these dots get lighter over time. I really like the satin finish and I don't want to put a layer of poly over it.

If the dots are actually a piece of wood insert (which I prefer) like the pearl dots on some other guitar, can I use the guitar as is without putting any protection on? Again, I like the satin finish very much.

Sorry for the silly questions.

Thanks.

Hey,

The dots are actually inlayed into the fingerboard itself, no real worry about them getting lighter over time. The brown line on the back of the neck is actually a separate piece of rosewood that is also inlayed into the neck, so you have no worries about that either.

Please, don't add any poly to the guitar. Especially the fingerboard. Please.

FYI, while new guitars are all awesome shiny and new, there are those who really dig the way a guitar looks as it ages over time.

Enjoy the new axe!!!!

Thanks for the clarification. That secured my purchase for the awesome guitar. I am sure I will enjoy it.
