just picked up a like new squier strat at a pawn shop for 50 bucks with a nice padded case. killer deal. i've been playing for 35 years, and am surprised at how well this guitar plays- and stays in tune.

only minor annoyance is the poor tolerance of the threads holding the trem arm... flops around a bit and will just get worse over time. has anyone already devised a fix for this, before i figure one out?

Quick fix: just your average household thread tape. Like this.

i suppose teflon tape would be better than nothing. as a machinist i tend to want a more permanent solution. anyway, in terms of bang for the buck these guitars are a steal. really like those bullet strings too...

The permanent solution  would be a replacement bridge & trem. After all, low priced guitars means e.g. cheaper alloys - so it's not uncommon that the threads give up, or that the trem arm itself breaks - I've even broken a die cast tremolo block on one Squier Strat...

But those are small defects on nice guitars (kinda like a little sister you generally love but on some days is totally annoying...)

the die casting does seem a bit suspect for this particular application, as in too soft for the threaded arm insert. spending more on an upgrade does not really seem justified though. i'll give it some more thought... the design flaw of course is that the threads are inherently loose to allow the arm to swing.
