Hi guys. As you see in the headline, I have a brand new Jagmaster. After playing it for a few weeks, enjoying it a lot, there appreared a scratcing interference sound whenever I played. It seems that the pickguard has become laden with static electricity so every time I play and touch it the guitar/amp will make this loud noisy horrible sound, it is impossible to play properly. Anybody with any experience with this. Tips? Thanks a million!

Hiya.
I've heard of this one before.
I doubt it's static. It's most likely faulty wiring.
A guy I knew was having the same trouble, kept taking it back to the store... his was an earth wire from the pickup switch that hadn't been connected to anything.

Either, take the guitar back to where you got it from and get them to sort it out or open it up and look for any wires that don't appear to go anywhere... if you find anything come back and describe where the wire is coming from (better still post a picture) and/or find a wiring diagram on the net.

It'll be an easy fix.

Ignore any rubbish about polishing the pickguard with anti-staitc cloths, etc. That won't work. In 30 years, I've NEVER had static build up on a scratchplate.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for your input. I bought it online from Musiciansfriend in the US so sending it back is not an option, way too expensive. I will open it up and see. It was a $@!&#* set-up as well, by the way... I'll be back!

I had a static problem with my CV 50s tele when it was new last winter. The pickguard is made of cheap plastic and it indeed builds up static electricity. Just rubbing the pickguard lightly caused a static sound in the amp. Although I wouldn't describe it as horribly loud as you did so you may have another problem. But my solution was to simply polish the pickguard with Martin guitar polish. This kept it static free for weeks at a time. Eventually it stopped without polishing and so far this winter it has not been a problem.

In a cold climate with dry indoor air static can build up. Rubbing the pickguard with a clothes dryer sheet will eliminate the static (as it does in clothes). Worked great for me last winter. :D

Pickguard Static-Problem solved! I cut a piece of computer static bag to fit between my tele body and the pickguard. I didn't cut the bag to fit the whole pickguard but only from the high e down where my fingers would strum and make contact with the pickguard. I also extended the piece of bag to make contact under the control plate but I don't know if this matters. THIS WORKS!!!
