Hello,

I just bought an SA-100, i know its not great, but out of the box, i noticed that the saddle already had a chip in it at the G string and while i probably could get it replaced, after looking into it, i found out that a lot of these cheaper guitars are never"set up" and spending some money to have it set up properly, and a new bridge would make the instrument easier to play( major plus to a newbie like me) and sound a lot better.

My question is what should i get to replace the saddle with? i am seeing these graphtech special plastic saddles around, and they seem like a good option, but they come in a few sizes, and i am not sure how to make sure its the right size, is there a way to tell?

Second question, where should i go to get the guitar set up? the Guitar Center i bought i from is an option, but i have heard horror stories about guitar center maintenance. SO my question, is what should i search for in my area(baltimore,MD USA) to find someone who can do this well and won't charge an arm and a leg( >$100).

Thanks,

Jhack82

You could try measuring the saddle to get it's size using a steel rule, and search the phone directory for guitar luthiers, or look for other guitar stores, personally i find the independant stores give a friendlier more personal service, and if they can't do the setup themselves they know a man that can. I am in the UK but GC's reputation doesn't fill me with confidence to want to go into a store if i was ever to visit the U.S.

As far as saddle material goes, bone/tusq/graphite would all be a good option, maybe consider the nut too depending on how much it's gonna cost you to get the work done.
