Just opened the box. What shrink wrap comes off besides the pick guard, pick ups? How does the tremolo arm attach with the spring? Is there a fender basic set up guide on what it should look and sound like?

The extra spring is for the Tremolo. Some guys prefer a little stiffer setup. if you pull the cover off the back you will see where they go. There are setup guides under the support menu above on the top menu bar. All the plastic wrap comes off but sometimes you ned to loosen the screws on the pickguard to get it completely off. it was on the pickguard before it was installed. most arm's screw in to the hole on the lower side (high E) of the bridge. some have a socket (same place) that they just slip/click into. By usb do you mean computer jack "Rock Band Squier" edit Oh! I just seen the New Model Cool 8)

Yes the spring is just a spare, you may not need it. Just screw the trem bar into the little hole in the bridge. Be careful not to over tighten.

Thanks for the help! Is there a book or doc in fenders site that goes thru the pickup switch settings and tone control and what they do. Are the strings that come with the guitar good? I am wondering if it is common to tune the open strings on pitch but when fretted he pitch goes sharp?

switch setting are as follow

all the way down (1) = bridge pickup
2 = bridge and middle pickup combined
3 = middle pickup
4 = middle and neck combined
5 = neck.

The tone controls.
The lower one controls the tone of the middle pickup
The higher one controls the tone for the neck pickup

The strings will be fender (normally bullets) 9-42 guage and are pretty good, but i would change them regardless of the guitar being new.

As far as the pitch goes it sounds like your guitar needs to be setup, this is not a major job but if its your first guitar i would recommend a proffesional do it for you, but it is something i would suggest you learn for the future. Heres a good link on how to setup a strat http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/I ... aster.aspx
I am of course supposing you have a strat, hope this helps

I just found the Fender Strat setup doc it looks a bit involved. Thanks again for the link I will look at it and the switch and knob settings . Looks like I will look up a factory trained tech .

don't just leave the guitar with him, stay and watch, ask questions, and more importantly get to know your guitar, how it works and how to do the work required. Every now and then it will need the setup adjusting, and its not a cheap job, and its fun to do it yourself
