I went down to the local Guitar Center and finally bought the Jagmaster I've been eyeing for the past few weeks. I really like the feel of this guitar, although I've already got plans for a few mods. After spending some time with it, I've come to realize I just don't like that Tortise shell pickguard, I plan on replacing it with a white pearloid one. As far as the pickups go, I'm gonna give the Duncans a chance, but I'm already thinking of dropping a set of Mighty Mite Motherbuckers in it. I dig the Motherbucker, I've got one in my SX Strat copy and just love it. I did get a Road Runner case for $50 that fits it nicely and isn't too bulky. It fits as if it was almost made for it.

Dude...that's awesome!!

If there's one other mod I could suggest??

I'd take to a tech and have him (or her) verify the action and intonation if you don't set these things yourself (including if the neck isn't quite even).

Also, if the guitar has a plastic nut, you may want to spend a little extra money getting a bone nut cut for it....

Otherwise...awesome! Yaaay for Squier! :D

The action and intonation were quite good from the factory, they could use a little tweaking, but that I can handle.

As for a new nut though, I'll definately let a pro handle that one. :D

Be careful about those Jagmasters, as my Jagmaster was the gateway Squier to my full blown Squier addiction. I bought my Jagmaster in January of 2007, and it was my very first Squier. Now, a mere 16 months later, I now own 6 Squiers, the Jagmaster and 5 Squier Teles. And looking to get more. I have played for nearly 20 years, and was blown away by Squiers quality for the price, because back when I got started playing, for what you would pay for a Squier today could only get you some Harmony starter pack out of the JC Penny catalog back then....

Hello Randy Doomonic,

Congrats on the new axe, I played that
jagmaster and it was neat, Great idea
springing for the $50 hard case-cheap insurance.
Best of luck.

Cheers.

I know what you mean about the gateway, I've already got my eye on one of the Vintage Modified Strats as well. Some of the Vista Series stuff looks pretty cool, I think the bug has already bitten.

I've been playing for 25 years and I remember those Harmony guitars all too well. As a matter of fact I've had my memory recently refreshed by working on a few for people. It has given me a whole new appreciation of the inexpensive guitars on the market today.

I'm also really impressed with the current quality of Squier guitars. I just bought a Squier Affinity Tele in Butterscotch Blonde. It plays and sounds awesome! I can't believe the quality of this thing for the money! Honestly, in a blind playing test I bet most people would think they were at least playing a MIM Tele.
