Hi All,

Just to say i am a complete beginner and have just bought the USB Strat to learn to play.
For the money i thought it was beautiful when i unpacked it, even the wife was impressed!
My system is an iMac + iPad + GarageBand.
Using the iMac its a breeze connect Strat via USB, start GB then select Strat in GB Prefs.
However using the iPad not exactly Plug & Play as i have to connect/disconnect the Strat a few times with GB running before its recognised and then ive found it sometimes disconnects if theres no input for a while (ie when i'm searching for a chord :D )
Cheers

Hi SmokeJaguar,

We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your new guitar. It sounds like you may be seeing an issue with one of the provided cables. It is hard to be certain via a Forum post. But it sounds like the guitar is functioning correctly with your iMac. Please feel free to contact us directly, and we will be happy to assist. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, i will continue testing/using the iPad setup to see if it gets any worse.
I suspect its just teething issues so no need to call you good people just yet.

I recently got one of these to use with an iPad with Garage Band. Is there any way to get processed audio to come out of the iPad speaker, or bluetooth speakers connected to the iPad, or the amp jack on the guitar?

So far, the only way I can hear processed audio is from the 1/8" headphone jack on the guitar, which means nobody can hear the processed audio except for me.

Hi Neuro,
I tried myself yesterday connecting a 3.5mm jack to my iMacs line-in…..no sound.
Yet when i plug in my headphones……sound.
Will try today with a spare amp, in case the output was too weak? for the iMacs line-in.
Also have started a dedicated Google+ page for the iOS Strat if your interested?

Smoke

After my unsuccessful attempts with an iMac, i tried a proper amp.
Now this is not a guitar amp, just a hi-fi amp…..results were:

Using iOS Strat & iPad2 & Garageband with 3.5mm jack plugged into Guitar headphone -out running into amp = Garageband amp effects with lowish volume.

Using iOS Strat & iPad2 & Garageband with 3.5mm jack plugged into iPad headphone -out running into amp = Garageband amp effects with moderate volume boosted by iPad volume button.

Using iOS Strat & 1/8" headphone jack on the guitar plugged into amp = Just guitar sound with lowish volume.

Hi Guys,

The headphone output on the Squier® Strat® USB Guitar is a line level output. You should be able to connect it to standard powered speakers (consumer grade, pro-sumer grade, computer speakers, etc.) as well as headphones successfully. If you are encountering issues when doing this, please feel free to contact us with any specific questions or concerns. Thanks much.

Best Regards,

Ok, so the 1/8" jack on the guitar (or iPad) really is the only place to get processed audio. That's a bit unfortunate because all the methods I'd planned on using won't work: iPad speaker, Bluetooth speaker, Bluetooth headphones, and amp with 1/4" cable.

A simple 1/8" to 1/4" adapter should get the amp to work, but I guess the others aren't an option at this time. It seems like an iPad or GarageBand limitation that I can't select those other output modes. From what I've read, I think you can do that on the Mac version of GarageBand (which added to my confusion), so hopefully an update will make that an option on the iPad version too. I am a bit surprised nobody else has wanted to do that though.

I hadn't thought to use computer speakers so thanks for that suggestion. I'll probably do that for now.

By the way, if you want to hear something really strange, pick an amp with distortion and then plug your iPad ear buds into the iPad headphone jack.

I definitely appreciate the help. Now that I know what my options are I can get back to playing instead of trying to figure this out.

Hi neurotwit,

We are happy to help. And you are correct. The iOS is limited to outputting audio through the headphone amp on the Squier® Strat® USB Guitar. And you are also correct that with Mac OS X, you can select your output to either the guitar or the built-in audio or other third party audio output hardware.

Please let us know if we can assist further.

Best Regards,
