I really like the Standard Series Telecasters, and a few of the Vintage Modified Series, like the Jagmaster and Custom Telecaster. I haven't played any Affinity Series, but I have read many favorable reviews.

I think the Affinity series guitars are not worth the money. Save a little more and get a Deluxe series Squire or a MIM Fender, you will be glad you did.

Or even just save $30 more and go with the Standard Series which when properly set up, are comparable to just about any MIM Fender...Or at least the Squiers I am lucky enough to own and set up are comparable to MIM Fenders I have played....

My older daughter has had an Affinity Strat for about five years, and my younger daughter has had one for a year. I've got over 40 years experience playing, and I have to say I've been amazed at the quality and durability of those two guitars given the very low price. I'd buy another one for a beginner without hesitation. To be honest, I play my kids' Affinity Strats more than I play my Fender Tele.

I think that the affinity series is fine for a beginner...most stores will set it up nice and file the frets if they are sharp. After you've been playing for a while it then becomes a nice platform to add to or modify to customize your sound. I used to have an affinity tele and it was a quality guitar. In fact I would like to get another one and turn it into a Tele like the fender Strummer signature tele.

For a little more advanced player the Vintage series are just incredible for the price and they stand up to any fender on the market.

Now I have Squier Vintage Special Tele with 2 humbuckers which is absolutely awesome for classic rock. I was convinced I wanted a 72 Fender Tele but the Vintage Squier fitted my music better and cost me $450 less.

Squier guitars are really as nice as modern MIM Fenders as I also own a MIM strat to which I added Texas Special pu's and now it's great but with the stock p/u's it wasn't much better than a Squier Strat.

For under $250 you can have a top of the line Squier or for $400 you can have a bottom of the line Fender. Do you care about the name on the headstock?

Affinity series is actually a nice guitar to start with. it depends on your playing skills and how much time you're willing to spend practising everyday. if you are on budget and just going to start playing, affinity should do the job best. 8)

I really like the Squier Classic Vibe 60's guitar. I have one and it gets played almost as much as my Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster. Mine stays in tune for days and feels great. The tone on it is very nice to play Rock, Metal, and Blues. The only suggestion I have for this guitar is to put surgical tubing in the Tremelo springs to get rid if the springy/ringing noise when you play without an amp.

Nothing wrong with the Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster. It did not sound as nice when I played one in the store and the finger board felt a little off when compared to the Fender Standard or the Classic Vibe. However, I would recommend one to anyone who is starting out playing. It would also a be great guitar to learn how to do modifications on as well.

I really wasn't looking for a Squier when I bought mine. Its just the Classic Vibe had all I was looking for when I went out to buy a Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster and it had a better price tag.
