I have a nice made in Japan Strat from the early 80's and there was a telecaster they made a few years ago that had a nice two piece natural ash body with a birds-eye maple neck/fretboard and actual Seymour Duncan Pickups that was amazing, but I think the Vista series guitars from the mid-late 90's were all great. That was where the SuperSonic came from. Possibly the first original Fender design since the bullet was introduced (and who wants to remember that). The supersonic had a four bolt short scale neck, 21 frets, string through, hard tail strat style bridge, two volumes and a three way toggle, a big strat style reversed headstock and the bridge pickup wasn't Fender spaced. It was mounted on a slant. The neck had a nice vintage feel to it also, as it was made in Japan. The only problem with these was that Im pretty sure they only came in a few colors. Two of which were sparkle blue and sparkle silver. They have actually started to go up in value slightly, as well as all the Vista series guitars, which were basically the precursor to the Mexican Fender Deluxe series. Supped up guitars made well for very little. If you see one used, try it, you'll like it. Vista Series Squire.

Couldn't agree more, the best Squire is YOUR Squire. :D

Couldn't have said it better. Cheers!
By the way, here's my strat. Has one tone, one volume and three on/off switches. The jack is on the side and the tuners are Fender die cast with the little Gotoh "G". There was a locking device on the headstock just above the nut, but it only got in the way. The only pickup still stock is the middle. The neck pickup died and the bridge sounded better in another guitar, so I tossed a GFS fatboy tele PU in the neck and a GFS "Vintage 59" Nickel Classic Alnico V- Humbucker in the bridge (maybe one day I'll get around to a coil tap on that bridge pickup). Sounds like a dream to me (the only $ I dropped was on the GFS pickups, can't beat that!). Notice the ethereal glow coming from the Boogie!

I really like the 83-84 MIJ squires. Someone earlier said the 84-87 MIJ were the best, but they would have to pretty nice to beat my '83 MIJ.

So, yes, I agree, the best are the ones you own.
