Probably the MIJ Squires made between 84-87.

The MIJ Squires are very nice, rivalling Fender products. I own a 2004 Squire Deluxe series Satin Trans Fat Strat, which is made in Indonesia. I bought it used in mint condition for $140. I thought it would be just an okay axe. Now that I have had it for a while, I really like it. I am very surprised at the build quality and feel. It has some nice high end features like a satin mahogany body, Duncan designed humbucker(that sounds good), Alnico single coils, 2 pt tremelo that rivals the American Standard Strat unit in feel and ability to stay in tune.
I am not surprised easily, but this $140 guitar rips!! I did have to spend quite a while setting it up, but now it plays really well for a cheap guitar.

I was playing around on my nephew's vintage modified Squier Strat a few weeks ago and was quite impressed with the sound and playability of it.

Anyone know the difference between the "bullet" series and the "affinity" series?

the nicest squier is the vintage modified strat. It is just amazing. Duncan pickups, extra polished neck, great action, stunning finishes. Great guitar. Likely better than a mexican standard

The new Squier Deluxe Strat really impressed me. So I bought one. I am not disappointed. It sounds good, feels good, plays good, looks good. It probably even tastes good.

 The BEST squier ever I have to say is the Jagmaster, it sounds beter than all the mexicans I played and it is cheaper. It comes with duncan humbuckers which are very good. I am usually a fan of the HSS setup but I have to say i'm loving the Jagmaster!

I have a vintage modified Tele SSH. It offers tones you simply wont find anywhere...it's got a nice warm humbucker at the neck, a modified middle strat pu, and a nice twangy pu at the bridge....so many tones so little time. And the best part is they are all duncan pu's so they sound fantastic.
