My output jack fell out(it appears to be a push fit). unfortunately the solder disconnected and I now need to reconnect. There is one light grey wire that consists of a central white wire covered with what looks like wire and a single black wire.
If I split the grey so that the white goes to hot and the outer earth wire goes to earth there is output, but also a humming sound. So I think the black wire should go somewhere.
I have a wiring diagram but it does not cover the output jack.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think the braided wire is shielding not a ground, the black wire is ground. The Fender diagrams do not show a shielded wire Just white and black so you might send Fender Customer Support an email and the should help you out.
