Anyone have any information on American made Squiers? I bought a Squier Strat about 20 years ago as my first electric guitar and can still be found rocking it in its original state albeit a little beat up and bruised, but still working. It was made in the USA which I have not seen since as most Squiers are made outside the US. Most people, including guitar techs and sales people are surprised once they notice it's American made. I didn't think it ws necessarily a rarity, but maybe it is. Well, at least these days!

Anyway, does anyone have information on production years, collectability, price, etc. for the American made Squier Strats? I have no plans to ever sell it since it was my first electric, however, I'd just like to get some information if possible. Thanks!

80s squiers in general are gaining some sort of collectability. it's kind of perplexing, but old squiers seems to be gaining value. you could check ebay to see what similar guitars are selling for. although i've never even heard of a US made squier. you'd be hard-pressed to find one to compare it to.

Yeah, I've checked on eBay in the past, but have never found a USA-made Squier Strat. Again, most people I've spoken to about it were never aware that the SS was made in the USA. Although I can say everyone I have talked to tells me I should never let it go, which I never plan to do.

No worries though! I'm just trying to get any information I can really. But if no information is available I'm not going to worry about it. It's still a great guitar after all these years, with no modifications at all. It sits next to my Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod, Gretsch Silver Falcon, and Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino ready to be played at a moment's notice. It is obviously in very good company, bringing up the real estate value of the SS, and I still consider it a mainstay of my recordings and live sound.

Thanks for the reply!

Hello Lungclamp, I have a American made Squier Strat. Have you been able to find out any info on these? I have heard several different stories about these. One being that the plant in Mexico burned down in the late 80"s.and Fender moved the operation to the US and Japan. While the plant was being rebuilt. I have seen one on e-bay recently with a buy it now price of $575.00. The guys at my local music shop have no idea, and seem to think it is a fake.

That would make sense since mine is from 1990. I haven't been able to track any more information down on the American made SS. Oh well!

I did recently, however, set it up, shine it up and baby it. It looks great and sounded great on a few recordings I made. As I said before, it still stays, and is used, in good company with its higher priced siblings.

My first guitar i learned on is a 1989 usa squier. Body is light but low quality/wood 2 piece. Everything else is nice. Has a real flamed maple CAP neck and thin nitro finish. Vintage frets. No skunk stripe cause of cap and heel rod adjustment. Looks like a 60's reissue. I love it and still play it daily. Just by looking online I see the same info on them. Made from transfer time of japan and mexico. Mexico plant has a fire so USA plant had to fill orders. Usa plant was small operation making mostly custom shop and artist models. Trying to get on their feet again after cbs was out. Some guy wrote to fender with his serial # and they told him it was a squier american standard stratocaster. MSRP $550. They all came with different parts. Some are the same, some are not. Basically usa built with leftover parts from japan, mexico, and usa.
