Hi all,

I've got a Squire Strat as a travel guitar. It has a crack in the finish down the back running from the neck to the trem cavity. What is the best way to seal it to help prevent it spreading or further wear and tear removing chunks of the finish.

Thanks for your help,

Elwood

Those scars are badges of honor, so I wouldn't do anything - remember, some pay big $ for those roadworns etc.

But if you insist, check which finish your guitar has. I'm betting on polyester, so you might fix the crack with the same: a minimum amount of clear poly lacquer applied to the crack, leveled down & polished. Even cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) does the job, if you're in a hurry.

Good spots to practise: inside the trem cavity or in the neck joint area.

I believe you can fill the crack with something clear, but it will always be visible since the guitar is a light color. Afraid you will only make matters worse if you try and hide it. I doubt if the cracks will spread unless you really abuse the guitar.
