So i have a squier strat that i got from my brother. I have no idea where it was produced(searched the number on headstock but to no avail). Question is would it be okay to use 5 springs as an upgrade or would that be to much? I have heard of using 4 but they come in packs of 5 so i figured I would ask. Also this is my first post here. I hope to learn a lot from you guys.

Sould find out typical Squire specs.
They should not vary much.
Seems three springs is quite common.
Four might be an upgrade from three.
Five might ruin your tremolo block and put
pressure on your bridge saddles nut & tuners.
Do your research. Also, under the neck, inside the body
will be some numbers. Toppscore :)

Using five springs versus three springs is not an "upgrade". It is a means for achieving the desired setup of the guitar. The number of springs required depends on the guage of the strings used and how you desire the guitar to be set up: decked bridge, floating bridge, how high the bridge floats, etc. The same effect can be achieved with three springs tightened more or five springs tightened less. The use of five springs in any guitar will not hurt the guitar as long as it is set up properly for five springs. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is simply wrong.

You need to learn about different gauge strings and how they affect the sound and setup of the guitar. You also need to understand how to setup a guitar. You can start here:

Also, search You Tube for guitar setup videos. There are hundreds if not thousands out there. :D

I have never added or depleted tremolo springs.
But, I was told too much tension can cause
some screws to detach from the body.
Could this be accurate? Just wondering :)
