Just brought a new squier affinity telecaster about 2 weeks ago. It has scratchy pots, I tried spraying some electrical contact cleaner but hasn't really done much. Its really annoying and sounds alot worst when running effects pedals. Any Ideas?

It seems to be getting worst, making a crackly sound even when playing, does anyone have any suggestions on what pots to update too. Also is it worth replacing the stock 500k pots with 250k ones like most telecasters.

Return it under warranty for repair or replacement.

Yeh it didn't come with a warranty urfortunately. I took it back to the shop I bought it but they don't really know much so I thought i would just replace the pots myself. I have abit of experience with soldering, etc, so I think I should be alright with it.

You bought a brand new guitar without a warranty? Why?

if you buy a new guitar and have proof of purchase it is under warranty. contact fender and see if they have a recomended service agent in your area, if you open it up you will void any possible warranty you have

Thanks heaps for the help, I appreciate it. I can't really get my guitar to Jakarta where the service centers are. I think I'll just get the pots replaced with some better cts ones. Is it worth swapping the 500k ones out for 250k ones like most telecasters have.

The pickups in the Affinity Tele are pretty crappy and may need the 500K pots to keep them bright. You can give it a shot, though.

Here is my Affinity Tele that I converted to an Esquire:

I used a Dimarzio Area T pickup with 250K CTS pots.

Thanks, I think I will just get them replaced with some 500k fender ones. Do the holes need to be enlarged to accommodate for the fender pots. I'm completely new to this kind of stuff, Thanks for all the help.

Affinity does not use the same parts that the Stardard does. I checked the old pots that came out of my Affinity and the nut is smaller than a CTS pot so the control WILL have to be drilled out.
