I bought a telecaster second hand and i discovered when i got it home if you switch the pick up selector is put in the middle position the guitar seems to sound as if its playing through a clean amp when im playing through a dirty amp setting. What i want to know is why.

Where do you have the guitar volume set at? if i am correct in saying you lose some power from the pup on the mid setting so yo may need to crank the volume more for the pup natural grit to come through
