are you sure? they looked like actives like a cheap emg knockoff. Though I didn't see a battery compartment, I just assumed the battery was under the pickguard.

edit. I looked at they are indeed passives. I just assumed they were active but they still didn't sound very good.

Only the Fender-branded JR Telecasters came with the EMGs, which are active and require an 18V power supply.

Unfortunately there's no a Squier JR Stratocaster yet.
