Hi!

My first guitar was the Stop Dreaming, Start Playing! Set: Affinity Strat Special with Fender Frontman 15G Amp. I LOVE it :D ! I've been playing guitar for about 3.5 years now and I still play with it and it's awesome. It was perfect as a first electric guitar set because you get the amp with it and everything.

What I would like to know is, did you get this as your first guitar set? Do you like it?

Gee, Fender didn't have anything like that in 1964, so I had to use this rig instead...

Oh, well, at least I'm still playing. :D

Didn't ever really get one of those sets. My first guitar was a red Squier Bullet Strat. Love it.

No "first .... set" has ever made me happy. Be it windsurfing, guitar, kitchenware, cars, girlfriends ... whatever.

Cheers

David

I bought the 'Fat Strat' (HSS) version of this package with a G-Dec Jr amp. It is the Affinity Series strat. I've been playing for about 37 years and played Teisco and Hondo electrics in bands in the early eighties. In late '07 I'd been playing 6 and 12 string acoustics exclusively (and not in a band anymore) and decided to get 'my chops' back on this electric as it seemed a good deal. Tried it out in the shop and must admit to having a bit of trouble with mashing a couple of strings together at the same time when voicing open chords close to the nut - thought it was a bit of non-syncing of the neurons (i.e. my fingers trying to put themselves where they would have on the neck of the guitars I'd been playing). Well..... four and a half years later and hardly played that guitar is now for sale. :( What I didn't realise when I bought it is that the Affinity series, as well as having a thinner body than a standard strat (and hence lower weight), has a narrower than normal neck (40.6mm). Who would have thought that 2mm could make such a difference?! (no rude comments please) :-) As a consequence the string spacing is just too narrow for my big Kiwi hands. I just couldn't get comfortable playing it except for bar or power chords (anything like a diminished or Dm7 at the nut just didn't work). I would have liked to put a custom neck on it (say a 1 3/4" or even 1 7/8") but it's a thinner body than a standard strat and that presents challenges of its own. As it happens I joined this forum to try and find out whether others had the same issues. And yes, some do. So, now I'm in the process of fixing up my old Hondo 760 Deluxe series (yes I still have it after all these years but I wanted something new!) so at least I'll be comfortable playing (I think)..... time will tell. Meanwhile I'll keep busking with my Eko acoustics (big, solid, overbuilt in Italy 6 and 12 strings). Cheers.

That's awesome man that you still have that guitar! It's a good idea to fix it up so that you are comfortable.
