Here are some shots of my ST-331 short-scale Strat. It was made in Japan. A serial number on neck plate. It has a rosewood fretboard, black headstock, single humbucker, short Gibson 24.75" scale.. Output jack is in the pickguard. The two switches are a coil tap switch and a killswitch that I added in the early '90s. The pickup that was in it when I bought it was an Epiphone humbucker, but I put in a cheap EMG Select pickup when I dropped the guitar and ruined the pickup. This was my first guitar, and I would grab it if my house were on fire and I only had time to grab one of my guitars.

Cool Strat! The guitarist in one of my favorite bands in Japan has a cream-colored Strat that he modified and has a similar setup to yours: One pickup, just a humbucker in the bridge position (looks like a Duncan from what I could tell), one knob for volume and the coil tap switch. Pretty cool!

I always love to see different variations on Squires. I hate seeing the same ole black and white models that flood my local craigslist. I have an odd HM body (HSS no pick guard)on my Squire II. I almost refinished it but the pearl white grew on me.
Great guitar you got there!

The best thing about Japanese Squiers is the quality. This guitar easily plays as well as my other Fender guitars, maybe a little easier because of the Gibson scale. And it feels heavy and substantial and like a high quality instrument. The fact that the body is only routed for one pickup makes it heavier and no doubt helps the sustain. It sounds good despite the cheap pickup, but is a little one dimensional. It's more of a rhythm guitar than a lead guitar for me because I like to use the neck pickup when playing leads. I'm thinking about swapping the pickup for a red dual Lace Sensor. My Strat is a bit like an Esquire: it makes one sound and does it well. It was the perfect first guitar for me, and is still one of my main guitars.

I love your Strat! I mean, the simplicity of it. I was always the kind of person easily overwhelmed by lots of tone options (like those regular S/S/S Strats). The presence of just one humbucker here is what catches my attention.

Oh, and also, if you don't mind me asking: what tuners are installed? I LOVE 'em and would like the same to be installed on my Tele. Thanks!
Cheers from the Philippines!

As far as I know, they're stock. Typical Squier Japan tuners of the day. They do a pretty good job.
